Handy (and great!) Upgrade
Used this item to install a second hard drive in my trusty MacBook Pro 2012 (v9,2). I travel a lot, and I've grown tired of limited integrated on-the-go storage for my image and graphics files. And I don't like traveling/flying with an external drive. So I took the plunge on this and installed a Seagate 2TB FireCuda drive as a second, media storage drive. (my primary drive is a 1TB samsung EVO) The install went fine, it fits perfectly, but the whole disassembly/reassembly process is a bit tricky with the miniature screws involved. Pro Tip: a slightly magnetized screw driver is amazingly helpful. As other reviewers have said, there are basically no "real" instructions included with this caddy, so do yourself a huge favor and google how to do it before you get at it. It will save you time and heartache, and maybe even a trip to the repair shop if you break one of the many small components inside your MacBook. Highly recommended. Also, to retain the ability to play CDs and DVDs (at my desk) occasionally, I picked up an LG external writer/player for like $25 here on Amazon. Works like a charm. No need to go SuperDrive. And I wouldn't bother messing with putting the newly liberated internal DVD drive in a third party case. Not worth the hassle for a 6 year old drive, IMO.

Product is ok
The product is ok. It came from Hong Kong and I expected it to arrive faster (that's Hong Kong Post's fault I guess)I bought it to put a ssd in my late 2009 iMac 27".The ssd would fits inside the tray just fine but the tray wouldn't fit in my iMac. I had to cut two pieces of aluminium with pliers, and the screw holes were not at the right spot.I might just be perfect for a mabook; I can't tell because I don't have any, but I wouldn't buy this again if I had another iMac to upgrade.

One small problem
I don't have a Mac, I have a Toshiba. I've been wanting to drop a boot SSD into my laptop for a while and I want to keep the spindle media to hold the data.Pulling out the optical drive and removing the coverplate were easy. The coverplate has four plastic tabs, but unfortunately only one of them is in the right palce for this item to fit properly. No matter to me, I'm going to use duct tape to hold it in place. The unit I received DID have screw holes, as in the last image. The plastic tab lifts out so you can slide the drive into the caddy without bending the connectors. There are four screws, but only two screw holes. The item fits into the optical drive bay and the drive is recognised and useable by the operating system.I'm happy with my purchase and hope other people have coverplates that fit perfectly. Not everyone likes the thought of cosmetic trim being held on by tape.

Easy install, works great. Identical to items from other sellers
Fit a 2011 13" MacBook Pro perfectly, and the drive was recognized with no problems. Speeds seem sufficient, but the connector on the machine is a SATA II, so I'd only use the optical bay for a platter HDD. Other laptops might use the faster SATA III.I ordered another drive caddy with a different brand name sticker attached to it, but the items were completely identical, down to the display card that comes in the package. In my opinion there is no need to buy an item like this branded specifically for Macs.I've seen some reviews claim that the build quality is low, but it seems great to me. It's basically a sheet metal and plastic holder with a SATA connector, but I'm not sure what else you need. It seems well made enough for $8. It comes with 4 screws to hold the drive in place, and a screwdriver. One note would be to remove the bracket from the back of the original optical drive and affix it to the caddy before installation, so the back has a way to mount to the computer. Installation took all of 10 minutes.
