Product works great even on long distances with minimal issues
Perfect for transporting a kayak as cheaply as possible. I used this on an 8000+ mile road trip and only had minimal issues, mostly in the rain.Cons:-In the rain, the foam pieces can slide around on the roof if not tied down literally as tightly as possible. I had to pull off the road a few times to readjust in rain storms.-Another issue in the rain is that the nylon straps get soaking wet and water from the outside travels into the cabin through them.-After a while, the straps put some wear on the gaskets of the car door, causing the tension on the straps to decrease and allowing the straps to vibrate in the wind. It's a very annoying, loud noise, but can be fixed by moving the straps to a different location.-There's no way to truly lock it to your car, so there is some worry about the kayak being stolen, although I had no issues and can't imagine many people would do such a thing.Pros:-There is no cheaper way to transport a kayak.-It's extremely easy and intuitive to set up.-At the end of the day, the product works.

Good temporary solution
I use this product but find two difficulties with it: Firstly, when you cinch down your kayak, the roof of your car will dent in. Eventually these dents can become permanent. I've read that in order to remedy this, the two foam buffers should be placed more widely apart: One at the extreme front of the roof right above the windshield, and the other at the extreme rear of the roof directly over the rear window. Apparently this places the foam buffers on a support beam that runs width-wise across the car. I believe this method does help.Secondly, if the wind is blowing, even just a little, and you're on your own, the foam buffers will displace or blow off the roof of the car before you can get your kayak on top of them. This can be extremely frustrating. When this happened to me, I threw a towel over the foam buffers to hold them in place. Make sure you cinch down the kayak very well in this scenario because your towel will be traveling on top of the car under your kayak. This works, and I didn't lose my towel. If the wind is really blowing hard, try getting your towel wet first, making it heavier.I only use the two cinching belts provided in the kit and not the two ropes, but I only live a couple blocks from the water. So my time estimates below are based on loading and cinching the kayak without the two extra ropes:It generally takes me 8 - 12 minutes to load the kayak onto my car and cinch it down. It takes about 3-5 minutes to take it down. The two cinching belts provided are awesome, by the way. Very easy to use and work very well.I think this is a good temporary solution, but you should think about getting a universal rack for your car instead. If you don't have the money for a real rack, then this method will work fine.

Works fantastic and easy to use
I was amazed to be honest how well this worked out. Very secure strong setup and the blocks work perfectly. Drove for hours on the freeway very fast and had no problems at all. Definitely worth the cost. No regrets at all.

Cheap way to transport kayak
I have a 4 door car I don’t think it would be safe or work in a 2 door car, But this kit is pretty good for transporting your kayak locally , My kayak is 12ft 35pounds and works great. I wouldn’t recommend to take it on long trips if you drive below 60 and check on the straps every hour or so…. It does the trick for me since my kayaking place is 30min away.

This was the best solution I could find at last minute and cost ...
My small SUV has no roof rack or rails... completely bare. This was the best solution I could find at last minute and cost effective. We took our kayak on a 5 hour (highway) trip and it was completely secure on the way down there... didn't move an inch - I almost forgot there was a kayak on the roof! I was so impressed that it worked so well! Coming home (6 days later) was another story. Partly our fault because we didn't mark where we had the foam placed on the way down - but also because the foam was no longer in its original shape and smashed down from the ride down. So it wasn't as secure... and the kayak slid around by the end of our trip... it was a little scary. If we didn't have the front and back ends strapped down, I think we may have had a real issue. So those ropes they include are absolutely necessary folks!!! We stopped and adjusted a couple times, and made it home, but I was anxious the entire time. In their defense, the hood of my car is slightly rounded, not flat.. plus I have a sunroof... so we had a few issues that made it harder to work as its meant to. If you have a flat roof, you are golden! Because the foam was flattened down, I do have marks on my roof from were the kayak rubbed.. again our rounded roof is the problem I think. And there are marks from the side straps where it goes in the doors. Also, the two straps are not ratchets.. they are bite straps. They were fine and very secure, but ratchet straps would be even better. So here are my suggestions: 1. Buy two! They are cheap enough to do that, and you will have brand new solid foam for both ways of your trip. 2. Get foam shelf liner or something to go under the exposed part of the kayak against your roof, and under the side straps at your door - so you don't get the marks I did. Again, if your roof is flat you should be fine. 3/ USE THE ROPES FOR BOTH FRONT AND BACK END!. I think some folks assume the two side straps are enough... not the case! You need to tie down the ends, its not work the risk!. I would use this product again if I needed to... but if you can afford a real roof rack - do that.

Works but...
These foam blocks work well, but they'd greatly benefit from a design improvement that would double their length. If, like me, you have a SUV, you'll have a hard time placing them center on your roof unless you have a step ladder. If you're a short person, you'd have the same problem with a car!Fix this and you'll have an awesome product on your hands.

A good product
The price is good and the product does the job. Would have liked to had some hooks attached to the long cords.
