Surprisingly accurate
The only way to accurately measure specific gravity of a marine aquarium is to use a refractometer.However, there are times when it is convenient to take a quick measure measurment.Swing-arm hydrometers are notoriously tempremental and inaccurate.Over the years I have accumulated a collection of 5 different hydrometers and this is the only one that consistently measures close to the refractometer reading. It is reliably close enough to be just what I need - a quick way of checking specific gravity without using a refractometer every day. I would never depend exclusively on one of these to tell me precisely what the specific gravity actually is but this particular brand, for some reason, is quite acceptable for a quick daily check.Always remember to rinse it out with tap water and let it drain upside down every so often.
