GREAT WATER CANS, HEAVY DUTY, MILITARY GRADE
After years of storing water in those clear spring water jugs from HD & WM, and having them ultimately split and leak at the darndest times, I finally decided to go with something a little more substantial and these fit the bill perfectly. I bought a 6-pack of the 5-gallon water cans and four of these 2.5-gallon smaller cans for "in the Jeep use". As I was doing my initial wash & sanitize steps on these, which you should do even with new Nalgene bottles and Tupperware bowls, I was reminded of the old Samsonite luggage commercial from the 70's where they torture-tested the luggage with gorillas...well, these things are definitely gorilla proof! Some reviewers complain about the smell of plastic and relate that to "dangerous and toxic chemicals" and I read one review that claimed that Scepter mixed up the plastic on these for the plastic that they use for fuel cans. Sorry scooter, that's just plain silly and a knee-jerking, review from an uninformed person.Fact, these water cans are made of food-grade, BPA free plastic. 100% safe! They are blow molded and shortly thereafter the lid is affixed and sealed-up and the whole can is prepared for shipping. Guess what scooter...these things are made of plastic and plastic smells like plastic...even food-grade plastic still smells like plastic right out of the factory...unlike laundry detergent, there is no such thing as scent-free plastic...surprise-surprise...the inside is going to smell like plastic immediately after opening up a never used can, especially when new and freshly sealed up.I removed the lids and let mine air-out for about 24 hours and there was just the faintest smell of plastic. After a double-wash & rinse with Dawn dish detergent, there is no smell. I filled with water and taste-tested after a week and my water tastes like water. Absolutely zero after taste and no plastic taste. These are good cans! If your water tastes like plastic out of these...you did not wash them good enough before use.I did perform a slight modification to my lids in order to make them more easier to dispense. I took a brand-new, 1/2" NPT pipe tap and cut threads into the inside of the small pour spout. Then went to HD and bought a 1/2" water valve so I can screw it into the pour spout and sit the can on it's side and let gravity fill my water bottles and anything else that needs filling.I highly recommend these water cans! They will literally be the last water can that you will ever buy unless it gets lost or stolen. If you're sitting on the edge about these cans, just buy them and give them a good airing-out and washing before use...and remember plastic smells like plastic when new...even food grade, BPA free plastic still smells like plastic. That's just the way it is.....

Durable, well built
Very happy with it. Convenient shape for camping, doesn't add bulk. There's no insulation, but the material is thick and dark which helps a bit.The top-only output makes it a bit more difficult to use when it's full, but it ensures no accidental spills.Oh, and it looks as if it's going to last a thousand years. A BIFL item. Very well made, thick and strong.

Excellent water storage containers
We have used the 20-liter / 5-gal Scepter for a couple seasons, and recently got this 2.5-gal container for shorter trips and general water storage. These are really bombproof, high-quality items. They work right every time, take the abuse, don't leak, and don't impart odd tastes to the water. I have no expectation of looking seriously at other brands and similar products, because these really are the gold standard.

Must Have for Off-Roading, Camping, & Emergency
This is my 3rd of the Scepter water containers. I have two of the 2.5 gallon and one 5 gallon. This 2.5 gallon size is perfect for short camping trips and off roading. I leave one in my Jeep and Tacoma at all times for emergencies.Very rugged and never leaks. The large lid makes it easy to clean. I’ll admit filling can be a pain because of the weight and single handle. You have to tilt it to fill it completely full.Still 5 stars.

Does not leak when on its side
Amazing for hauling water to camp. We attached it to the back of a steel, heavy-duty gravel bike. We used voile straps (from skiiing) to hold it in place. Everyone found it easy to use. Highly recommend.

Good for water transport, not good for water dispensing
For water transport this is the best I've found so far. Stores water dependably with no bad smell. And no worries of leakage once you've treated the threads. Real design flaw is that there is no properly sited top vent for when you're pouring water out. The water dispenser add on just won't work to fill even a cup, the suction is so strong you have to tip the container back to vent air back in. Which means all your camp buddies are pouring water out of their cheap jugs with ease and I'm here tipping my jug out constantly (because in the long run my water is secure). Also, they leak unless you line the threads with a silicone grease. Yes it is bombproof, but a few tweaks to the design would make this worthy of the price.

It's a water beast.
If zombies are attacking just start swinging this jug and take 'em out. Built with all the toughness you could ever want in a plastic water jug. This is the perfect size and weight to add to the vehicle when going on a trip...just in case you happen to need emergency drinking water along the way.

Heavy-duty product -- will not get punctured by rough handling
A very solidly made product. After reading other reviews, I saw that the one possible failure point is the o-ring gasket sealing the big screw cap. Many other reviewers said their Scepter water can leaked from here. As soon as I got mine, I filled it halfway with warm water and some dish detergent, sealed it up and shook it at all angles -- upside down, sideways, every which way. No leaks! The small cap had no o-ring, but it looks like it doesn't need one because the lip of the spout seats inside a groove inside the cap.As an aside, I found information on another website that the large cap o-ring is a standard #238 size, which is 3-1/2" ID x 3-3/4" OD x 1/8" thick. The person on the other website had added an o-ring to the small cap and reported its size as #116, which is 3/4" ID x 15/16" OD x 3/32" thick. In case the o-rings on your Scepter water can get pinched or damaged, you should be able to buy replacements at an industrial supply house or plumbing supply. This water can will last a lifetime!

Not an object where you need to save
Ok. Yes. This product is expensive. It is even very expensive. But, when like me it will be used to store my drinking water for several months, there is no question of me sacrificing quality. And the quality is there. That's the important thing: paying more when you have more is not a problem.

Excelentes
