Very visual and very appropriate for middle-school/high-school students
I just finished teaching a once-a-week, one-hour, class on JavaScript to several students aged 13-17 at a local church. It went very well and the students enjoyed the class based upon JavaScript for Kids©. Several of the students did a final presentation to their parents using one of the projects in the book. While this book covers the basics of JavaScript programming (variables, arrays, functions, if statements, loops, etc.), it presents these topics using over a dozen example projects. It also teaches basic HTML and CSS so that the projects are very visual. This book makes excellent use of teaching by example!

For dummies guides are awesome.
I got this for my son, and he is starting the book now. If it keeps his attention, I will raise my rating to five stars.

He thought it was cool enough to want to show his mom everything he ...
I bought this for my 13 yo. son to help with his science fair project. He was doing AI tic-tac-toe. He didn't know any Javascript. He read through the book and completed task/example step by step. He thought it was cool enough to want to show his mom everything he did (thanks for making me cool again). He's good with computers and he's a smart kid. That being said, he didn't think that book was "dummy-downed" or too over his head.

Very helpful for my son
I am a software developer already. And wanna teach my son about development. Javascript is the best skill for developers and this book very good for starting development for kids. Thanks

Excellent Book!
Excellent book! It fills in the blanks where my online college course lacks explanations. NOT overly silly or "cute", which was a concern.

My 15yr old is happy with it:)

disfunctional
Far too much description with little hands on practice. After 50 pages of descriptive material little of which will be retained by a new user some small opportunities for coding emerge. This is emphatically not the way to teach programming.

"Kids" might need a little help
I bought this as JavaScript is my one weakness in using the big three (CSS, HTML, JavaScript).I've been self teaching myself over the last couple of years and most of CSS and HTML you can get to grips with fairly easy. JavaScript does need a fair bit of maths at times to get into. It's been a long time since I was a kid but I really struggle to understand JavaScript so thought this would be and easy approach, for the most part it is. Nice step by step instructions and most bits of code are explained line by line. The only thing I didn't like is for some bits you have to sign up to JSFiddle to get your code to work. I use windows 10 notepad and for the main part got it working fine but most of the later coding in the book is done on JSFiddle and if you want to use notepad it's a lot of copying and pasting which does get confusing. If you're going to stick with JSFiddle you'll be fine as the book does lean that way.It really does depend how smart you are I guess (in my case not very it seems, as even reading the same bits two or three times went over my head).Still it is all a learning process and if you can keep your frustration level to a minimum and know when to give it a rest for the day you'll do fine.Stack overflow is invaluable source for all things CSS, HTML, JavaScript. Give them a look.

Do not bother with this book if you are wanting to learn basic java script
After reading and practising a few of the chapters I thought it was absolutely rubbish for teaching you basic java script don't get me wrong it does teach you a few basic java script protocols but to be fair its not pure java script and its not using java script software either. If you are wanting to learn java script using actual java script software then I would stay well away from this book since I have wasted my money and am now searching for a much better alternative java script book wise.
