Stand Up for Yourself & Your Friends: Dealing with Bullies & Bossiness and Finding a Better Way (American Girl® Wellbeing)

Engaging and Helpful
My daughter is in grade 1 and we’re starting to deal with relational aggression. We really enjoyed reading this book together (she’s very advanced for reading - most kids in grade 1 won’t be able to read this on their own).I like that it presents multiple ways to deal with bullying - acknowledging that there is no one way that will work all the time. And I like that it encourages kids to stand up for themselves but also to seek help. It gives concrete examples of things to say in several situations - and it has some activities too.I’ve found my daughter looking through the book on her own too.Her only complaint was “why is it only referring to girls” so I explained that it was a book written specifically for girls. I think the content would be great for boys too - hopefully there are similar books out there for boys too.

A must for every girl to read
I’ve been reading several of these books to my daughter in the hopes of helping her reach a higher emotional intelligence and survive the drama of tweenagehood. These books are beautifully written with amazing tools and psychology behind them. I have recommended them to every mother I know. I would have loved to have had these growing up. They have done an amazing job of simplifying personal developmental concepts that most kids don’t have access to until much later in life usually. I love the idea of investing in my daughters soft skills and helping her exceed on life through more then just what they teach you in school.

Great advice for kids “from kids”
I gave this to my 2nd grade daughter when she came home with stories of mean girls. It gave us a way to talk about how to stand up for herself and a reference for her when she was feeling down. I think it really helped because the meany seems to leave her alone now!

Great book- even for younger kids
I have to say up front that I am *not* an American Girl doll fan. And I didn't realize that this was an American Girl Doll book at the time of purchase, or I might have moved on. *However* I'm really glad that I bought this book.I originally bought it for my oldest daughter to help her has she transitioned into a new school. But she had an easy time of it. My younger daughter did not. And on her second day of school came home very sad and deflated. She picked this book up because it was sitting on the table waiting for her older sister, and she devoured it. She read it twice through in 2 days. It really helped her get some perspective on her new environment and gave her confidence to keep trying. Thanks for writing a book that connects with young kids and gives them confidence to keep trying. This book will have my hearty recommendation.

The book gave her great advice and guidance on how to deal with situations ...
My daughter was having some problems with a mean girl in her school and I bought the book help her through it. The book gave her great advice and guidance on how to deal with situations where she may not have the confidence to stand up for herself. She followed the advice and no longer has problems at school. It helps to talk to your kids about what you read so they can practice standing up to mean girls and bullies. I made sure to read this with my younger daughter who will be starting kinder in the fall so she's prepared to stand up for herself and her friends. Helpful book!

Amazing book - every kid and every school should have this
The media could not be loaded. Transformative.Sometimes kids don’t know what bullying is, ie if your friend speaks to you one day and ignores you the next that is a form of bullying.Gives great ideas for things to say, beautifully explained for children on how to stand up for yourself and others. Not too long and not too short, perfect!

Informative book that the kids enjoyed reading
This book was a great conversation starter for my kids. They loved reading it and it was informative without being overwhelming. I like the quizzes to assess which style of communication you tend towards, and the suggested wording that could be used to stand up for yourself or others assertively but not aggressively. Great book!

Very helpful and fun to read
I wish i had a book like that when i was a kid, well written for kids age 7 and up. The quizzes inside helps reflect on which situations are bullying and which are not. I highly recommend this book.

Fantastic book to help with bullying and standing up for yourself
My daughter is 7 and this book is amazing. The book is very well written and very rateable. The scenarios are also great to help her understand each part of the book. It even helped me to refresh my knowledge on bullying and how to help her. Highly recommend. Will definitely get more books in this series.
