We recently purchased several Hemnes bookcases from Ikea, but I was concerned about a number of reviews I saw in which people said the shelves were falling off the pegs, so I went looking for a solution before it became a problem. As a result I purchased a couple of packs of these extra long pegs to have on hand, just in case. However, when the contractor doing repairs in our apartment (who was doing us the favor of putting the bookcases together for us) saw these, he rejected the pegs that came with the bookcases and insisted on using these! They are heavy and feel very solid, they go in smoothly and fit snugly but not too tightly to move, and although we’ve loaded up the shelves they are sitting peacefully in place without so much as a creak.Update: 7 months later, still holding snugly in place.

These pegs are PERFECT to solve a very significant problem that had developed with pressboard cabinets in our garage. The cabinets had started to warp and bow outward on both sides, over the course of the last 30 years. As a result, many of the shelves inside collapsed from lack of peg support on the sides. The cabinets had become too wide, and the shelves not wide enough to be supported by their original, shortish ‘spoon’ pegs. Those original pegs did not extend underneath the shelves far enough to support them adequately on both sides. With most of the shelves collapsing, the entire cabinet system was no longer usable, and our garage storage was gone.Enter this purchase of these long steel pegs from Desunia — these pegs are absolutely great! They are very sturdy AND they extend substantially (from the predrilled holes in the cabinet walls) to support the existing shelves very well. These pegs have saved us THOUSANDS of dollars, because we no longer need to consider replacing all our garage cabinets and shelves.Additionally, Mike at Desunia was very gracious and helpful in answering all my questions. Exactly what I needed for my IKEA Hemnes bookcase.Backstory - the shelves ALWAYS fall off the IKEA pegs because they are too short and the backing on the bookcase does not stay on exactly flush to the bookcase. Fed up with constantly re-stacking DVDs, I finally ripped the backing off and looked for an alternative.These pegs keep the shelves in place and the shelves have no way of falling off now! I am so happy now!

I needed extra long shelf support clips to hold shelves that are slightly too short for the case they are in. These clips I bought through Amazon did the job and were easy to install. They are significantly longer than the standard suppost clips, so they are secure. Ace Hardware told me such a thing does not exist. Anyway, they don't sell them. I am quite satisfied with my purchase.

I got a very nice display cabinet from Craigslist for $90. It came with 4 glass shelves. I wanted more shelves but they are 11" x 37.25". The closest replacement shelves were 10" x 36" Standard 1" pegs would not hold them once inserted 1/2" into holes. These pegs are 1.75" long which extend out far enough to hold my new shelves. I used adhesive putty between the pegs and glass so they will not move around. BTW I got 4 shelves for $53 instead of $80 EACH!

Fit well into pre-drilled 5mm kitchen cabinet holes used to hold shelf the small "standard" L-shape brackets. Many of the cabinets are imported from China and require the 5mm vs. 1/4 inch shelf support. Application: Replaced mdf wood shelves that came with cabinets with stock (standard) 24 inch long glass shelves (much cheaper than custom cut shelves) where inside cabinet width was almost 25 inches causing larger than normal gap. Front cabinet facing hides the small gap between each shelf and inside cabinet wall. These pins provide the distance and strength to extend out the distance more than other shelf supports.

I needed the longest length dowels i could find. These were it. The fit perfectly in regular dowel holes but are much longer. I have shelves that fall with the standard length dowels. These help my shelves stay secure.

They work. They are long but I think I would've liked them to be flat. I think the support would be better. I did get them right away. I would buy from them again.
