Wacom Intuos3 Airbrush - digital pen ( ZP400E )

I purchased this for my Wacom Cintiq 12wx and it works great. It is not as heavy as the stylus that came with my Wacom, but I like the contour shape that mimics an airbrush.

I use the word “heft” five times in this review. That’s the bottom line, it’s lack of heft keeps it from being a perfect product for former airbrush artists.Never before have I ever given a Wacom product anything less than 5 out of 5 stars until now. I hate to say this but if there was another vendor who made an aftermarket Airbrush shaped stylus pen that worked with the Wacom Intuos3 I would have to consider buying it. If at all possible I would love to see Wacom take another whack at this and do it right next time. As it exists now this pen is not worth almost $100.This is really aggravating because this is also the pen that I’ve reached for the most in the past two weeks when starting work and it’s the one that I’ll use if I’m touching a photo or painting detail in Illustrator. I love the feel of this thing in my hands because of its basic shape and it’s reminiscent of my favorite painting tool in the past. The button works, the dial for varying paint thickness works, just like the other pens (except the 6D Art Pen) it even has a tip on the other end for erasing.It’s so close to perfection! So close! I just want it to have the same heft and substance as my original airbrushes!I get the sense that there is an artist under the employ of Wacom who wanted nothing more than make a fantastic product and must have burst into tears when he or she felt it for the first time and heart broke at the lack of heft!I’ll also throw in the similar side note that I put in my other review for the 6D Art Pen: I wish this pen was standard with the original purchase of the Intuos3 tablet. I love the notion that there are accessories and replacement pens for the Wacom that are almost fun collectibles but I wish I was able to get all of the other pens all together.

It does exactly what it promises. I bought 3 more after this first one. It's easy to use and extremely precise.

This product does not work with the newest Wacom Cintiq 21ux. Although I believe that there is a newer one availible. It is black and Wacom lists it as model number KP400E2 under their accessories page for Cintiq 21ux.

Note...off the bat this is made for Intuos 3 and Quintos Wacom Tablets...it wont work for an other tablets.I opened the package and thought...hey I just paid money for a tablet pen with a wheel on it...what a jip. Yet after I got to play with it I could see how it will make my life easier doing painting and drawing. True you can use the Wacom pen to do airbrush...but controlling the digital paint flow is far easier using the wheel so I can concentrate on creating my artwork. True you can probably set up one of your Wacom Tablet Sliders to change the flow of paint (I actually don't know if this is possible...I already use my sliders for other important stuff I don't want to reassign) but if you can't map it to a slider...then the pain of changing the flow manually in Photoshop AND Painter would really slow my down. So I ended up thinking it was money well spent...yet I wish (this is what I knock them down for) that the pen felt a little less...flimsy. A real airbrush...which is normally made of metal and having just a bit of heft and solidity to it I find it a tad disconcerting to use the digital airbrush and then go back and use a real airbrush...

The Wacom Intuos3 Airbrush - Digital Pen is very easy to install and use. Imediatelly after you put the pen close the tablet, this is ready to use and to do a lot of airbrush effects.
