More Chessercizes: Checkmate: 300 Winning Strategies for Players of All Levels

Exellent book

I love working through this book. It has really taught me many types of mates and sharpened my mating eye. I now watch out for others trying to to mate me, as well.The problems are not categorized other than by the numbers of moves to mate. He does not list the types of mates either. You figure out the different mating patterns while doing the mates in 2. Then you find them in the more complicated problems to follow. The diagrams are big, clear, and easy to read, and the pages are made of good quality paper.If you are below 1200, you might find most of the mates in 2 challenging. If you are above 1600, you will probably find most problems to be just a warm up.

This is a good part 2 to Pandolfini’s Beginning Chess with 300 test puzzles. more Chessercizes would be a good third book. I am only giving him 4 stars because of his obvious consistent mistakes in the answers section. For example, he states a Rook mating on the wrong rank and sometimes confuses a rook for a queen and vice versa when the indicated piece is not on the board. His errors are only about 3% of all the puzzles, the difference between an A and an A plus. I purchased both of the Chessercizes books written by Pandolfini, but reading this first based on advice from another player. The books arrived in perfect condition and the binding bend perforations of the front and back covers were perfectly formed about 1/8 inch from the binding edge. I always bend these so the binding does not come apart and the book can be read over and over again. Great job by the author and the publisher and Amazon packing and shipping department. With all set aside, I have over 60 chess books and most of his, and everyone of these books have similar errors. The authors really need to have better chess players editing the puzzle books for obvious errors.

This is a great book for quickly developing a large array of game-winning strategems while working on pattern recognition skills. I now spend some of my time looking for decisive combinations, instead of simple tactical gains, and I am winning more games, much earlier, because of it. As well, this book provides excellent practice for plying deeply into a position. Take Pandolfini's suggestion to time yourself on each solution; this will also increase your general problem solving efficiency. This book is a simple yet effective tool to quickly improve our game, especially for we beginner to mid-level players.

This is a must have, every puzzle is a gem!! The book shows you the board in a certain position and tells you how many moves til mate and lets you find it! It is great!!

Everybody should know tactics are the most crucial elements to improve for Class players.This book has some errors. A couple of positions had shorter mates and only one position was impossible to solve.Despite those mistakes, this book offers some great pattern recognition for people. An example of this is the Philidor's mate with the Knight smothering the King inside his own pieces. Initially they had a similar concept for Mates in 2 of this motif & eventually you'll come across this idea in Mates in 5, 6, and 7.The idea isn't just to test each piece out and find the checkmate but to recognize similar pattern recognition, understand why this variation works instead of the other, how to maximize your pieces potential to corner the King or cut off his squares, etc.If you TRULY dig deep into this book, study each puzzle and grasp the concepts as to why it works, you will greatly improve your calculation/tactical analysis.However, the solutions do not have any explanation so I advise a computer engine to check your work especially to the curious minds out there who want to test their own different solutions. Overall, quite a decent book.

I'm a begining chess student, but long time reader. I could only make it thru to problem 50 before deciding the book was a waste of money. Before problem 50 I found two typos, a mate in one move, an alternate ending that is not listed and finally, on problem fifty no checkmate. All of these errors and his puzzles have not even progressed beyond "mate in two". How could I then take time on longer puzzles without feeling like I am on a wild goose chase. If I am going to spend my money on a book it needs to be accurate. Not an unedited untried uncared about money making scheme.

I also bought "Chessercizes: new winning techniques for...", and I tried to solve the first problem (therefore, the easiest) and I couldn't. So, I changed to this book, and, so far, I solved all the problems without any problem. Very good, like all Pandolfini's books. Not for nothing he's the best.
