First Impressions
Microsoft really knocked it out of the park with this one. Pairing was a breeze, keys feel pretty good for a very thin, portable device - no comparison to a mechanical keyboard, but similar to an ultrabook. I had a wired number pad, I intend to have this one to travel but it will replace the wired unit as well because my previous choice had way too much key travel and had extremely vague, mushy keystrokes. I didn't really read up too much on the product details before ordering this, and was pleasantly surprised by a great feature I hadn't even known was there - the ability to pair three different devices, and switch between them with the bluetooth button. I was even more surprised when this worked flawlessly and the switching was basically instant. Can't speak to battery life yet, but it's been great so far.

amazing keypad
today I received my numpad, its build quality is really good and its amazingly thin also it is the most beautiful numpad I have ever seen.By using Microsoft keyboard and mouse center you can easily program this numpad, the amazing thing about it is that there is a bottom that can store it on the numpad itself, it means if you connect it to another computer its assigned key works as programmed. I have assigned the calculator key to numlock then it can switch the numlock off and ON , then I could use it as a normal numberpad when the numlock is on and a keypad when it is off, for example I when numlock is on my number one types "1" but then it is off it can open a new desktop or whatever you assigned. you can even assign your favorite shortcut to it and use it as a keypad for your Ipad or iphone ,etc.It works exactly like a shortcut qmk keypad (macro pad) , and you don't have to charge it for a long time and its battery can be found in any super market. I strongly recommend it.Also you can choose an specific hotkey in each applicaiton, for example numpad 1 can type your email in chrome and type a math equation in microsoft word and open your download folder in windows environment.

Excellent numpad for a mac user
I purchased 2: 1 for my PC and 1 for my Mac. This works incredibly well with any pc or surface products. It pairs instantly. It also works on my mac; However, you need to pair it manually. Just follow the on screen notification on your mac by typing certain numbers and its paired. Theres just some minor delay when initially typing on my mac and the calculator shortcut on the upper right will not work on mac. Nonetheless, this is one of the best compact numpads suitable for mac. You can pair it up to 3 devices and battery lasts for about 2 years and you need to replace them manually.

Works Seamlessly
I ordered this to use with my Dell XPS laptop as it (the laptop) has a small footprint that doesn't provide a numeric keypad but I use numbers a lot in spreadsheets. This Bluetooth add-on paired with the laptop quickly & easily on first time use and works as well as a numeric keypad that's integrated with the laptop keyboard.Microsoft hardware products are normally on the expensive side but they're well made. This unit falls into that category. It works well, the keys are easy to use / press and it feels like a quality product. The product writeup says the battery lasts for 2 years. I won't know if that's true for quite a while yet but if it is then it's a case of "set and forget" when using it.I'm happy with this purchase.

Good for casual and on-the-go use
This is a really good number pad. But I’m returning it.That doesn’t mean you should do the same. If you value portability and reliability, you can’t go wrong with something from an established company like Microsoft.• The membrane keys feel nice and sound like what you’d get from a standard laptop.• The dedicated backspace and calculator buttons are handy.• The included software—while not the slickest or the most intuitive in the world—lets you customize each button down to specific macros.• It’s got a nice design, with a pleasant smoothness and roundness to it.• It’s lightweight and wireless, so you can slip it into a pocket and take it with you.But the “wireless” part is why I’m returning it. Specifically, the Bluetooth. This isn’t an issue inherent to this particular device, but Bluetooth electronics tend to have a power-saving mode that I find a bit pesky: if you don’t use them for a few minutes, they go to sleep, and you have to press a few buttons to wake them back up. This often causes a delay between when you press a button and when your computer actually registers that button press—sometimes up to a few seconds. It’s not the end of the world, especially if you use your number pad enough that it never really goes to sleep. And I know there’s probably a setting or two I could toggle on my computer to disable this sleep mode if I dig deep enough. But I frankly can’t be bothered, and it’s certainly annoying enough for me to look for something else.In particular, I’m planning to swap this device for a wired mechanical number pad for about the same price. In return, I even get a backlight and the ability to customize my keycaps, which means I can replace them with those typewriteresque circular keys I’ve been eyeing.Again, if you don’t mind the occasional delay, this is a perfectly fine—and in some cases, rather exceptional—little keyboard. But if you’re looking for something a bit more responsive, I would recommend something else, probably wired—especially if it’s at a similar price.

Sturdy & connects easily
I was impressed by the Microsoft number pad. It’s small & lightweight yet feels very sturdy. The Bluetooth was easy to connect and the keys are responsive and not wiggly/jiggly. Feels very much like low profile laptop keyboard keycaps. I can’t speak to battery life yet.Edit: open battery compartment by using a paper clip, pin, mechanical pencil. Battery type: CR2032

A solid choice among the many generic offerings.
The first thing I should mention is that this numeric keypad works well with my 2021 Acer Chromebook. Microsoft seemingly doesn't encourage using this with non-Windows machines. I had bought my 14" Chromebook as a replacement for my previous (budget) Windows laptop to use as a secondary computer, but it lacked the extended keyboard of the previous machine. This Number Pad fills that role perfectly. There are many inexpensive numeric keypads with buttons galore listed on Amazon that would probably do the trick, but a common complaint among purchasers is that they eat though regular alkaline batteries fairly quickly. The Microsoft Number Pad uses a coin-style battery, and while I can't vouch for their longevity, batteries of this style seem last a long time when used in other devices that I own.The build quality of the Number Pad is solid with rubberized keys. The keyset is basic but functional for my needs. While it lacks a "clear" key, pressing C on the regular keyboard serves the same purpose. The one "hot-key" (with a calculator graphic on it) launches the stock calculator in Chrome, which I assume is the identical function on a Windows machine. I am not able to program this button to work with the third-party calculator I installed but that is a minor inconvenience. My understanding is Windows users can run software to assign custom functions to a number of keys on this device. Having said that, non-numeric functions mapped to a numeric keypad in other applications I use work perfectly for me with no additional configuration. If you are a Chromebook user such as me, this might be the your best option!

Slim, easy to pair, sturdy. I love it so far!
I've only used it a couple dozen times and it seems sturdy. I can't comment on the battery life yet. I had no problems pairing it quickly with my Surface Pro 6. Even if I leave it unattended for a while, it starts typing the first time you press a button(no need to "wake" it up). I love it so far. Very slim and fits in my satchel pocket...or even my jacket or pant pocket.
