Q: I held the button on the right for a few seconds, thinking I'd turn the watch off, but it went to Emergency Services....is this right?

Sorry for the delay in my reply I've been on annual leave, The ON/ OFF switch is the one with the circle. If you hold this down for a few seconds it powers the watch on or off. The other switch has SOS written on it and if hold it down for a few seconds it calls emergency services. Right or left will depend on which way you are holding the watch.

Q: How much data per month do we need for the SIM card?

I have a £6 goody bag from gift gaff and she rarely uses it all. Depends on how often they will be calling on it

Q: Does it has taking off detector?

Yes you can disable tracking which means the battery lasts a day or so.
