Solid setup for my Savage Axis II - Needed high mount to clear bolt handle on Nikon P5 scope
I bought a new Savage Axis II chambered in 30-06 almost a year ago. On the 4th shot through the rifle, the stock scope broke with the reticule sitting 45 degrees rotated and crooked. Mind you I couldn't even get on paper with those first 4 shots.Later I ordered a Nikon P5, which I had planned to do anyway, and started to zero the rifle. Things were improving as I adjusted the elevation but then the windage was maxed out on the scope but I was still several inches off of point of impact. A guy at the range who had just zeroed the same type of rifle (in a different chamber) remounted the scope right there and tried to zero it. When he couldn't he claimed the scope must be bad.I returned the scope for another of the same model. At the range again and trying to zero and things are improving but just very inconsistent. Shots are high, then low, left, then right and this was at 50 or 75 yards (I'm relatively new to firearms so I wasn't certain that it was just me pulling my shots).Later I talked with a friend that suggested I look to replace the scope mount and rings (I had been using the stock pieces the entire time). Given the 30-06 has a pretty good kick, I wanted something that would keep the scope from walking and I didn't like many of the choices on Amazon for rings (I was going to go to a Weaver mount setup). In my search, I came across this DNZ set. The total cost for other rings and mounts were about the same cost as the DNZ set and I liked that the DNZ was all one solid piece made specifically for my rifle.Upon receiving the DNZ, I removed the stock mounts and noticed the front mount screws were really loose and the barrel was scratched from where I assume the mount was moving around, most likely providing the inconsistent shot patterns.Mounting the DNZ is pretty straight forward and the mount screws did not penetrate too far into the barrel to inhibit the bolt movement, which was a concern. There are two mount screws in the back and two in the front. Unfortunately one of the screws for the front and another in the back are located inside the scope ring, so you need a longer than normal allen wrench head for your torque wrench to properly tighten them. I didn't have that so I just had to use a regular allen wrench and tighten by hand (the other two screws I properly torqued down, DNZ provides torque specs on their packaging for both the mount and rings). I used blue Loctite and finally went to the range again after putting about 60 rounds through this gun already.Once dialed in, at 100 yards I was shooting 2 inch groups and at times 1 inch. I was elated. My last couple of shots were a bit off and I'm hoping that was due to the barrel getting hot from 18 rounds. Overall I'm pretty darn happy with this setup and would suggest it to others. I took a star off of the 'ease of installation' rating because of the 2 deep mount screws, otherwise it seems great.

A solid scope mount!!
I got mount in quickly and was a simple install on my savage axis .243. I have taken the rifle to range a few times and mount is holding up great. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a solid mount for their axis.

Item description is wrong.
This is not the high, one piece mount I ordered. There is a sticker on the back of the item package with the description I ordered. But the manufacturer description on the front of the package is exactly what is in the package. A medium 2 piece mount for a Winchester. I ordered a single piece, high mount for savage axis.

Offset design allows for seamless bolt action and shell ejection.
This thing rocks! Bottom is rounded to mate to the rounded surface of the rifle. Purchased this for a Savage Axis .243 with a Burris scope. Fit & finish looks great, rings clamp evenly and hold the scope perfectly. Best part, the mount is offset, allowing for plenty of room for shell ejection and bolt opening/closing. For the money you can’t beat this thing, no rails required and comes with all required mounting screws.
