A PocketExpert Guide to Marine Invertebrates: 500+ Essential-to-Know Aquarium Species

Comprehensive Guide
This book provides an extensive guide to corals and most other invertebrates that might be used in a salt water aquarium. It gives a nice account of the main characteristics of each in a condensed format with a lot of nice, clear pictures. Basic care and compatibility issues are discussed. Unfortunately, there are so many variations in the appearance, particularly of corals, that a book of this size is of limited help in the identification of specimens. However, it is still useful for home aquariums.

curlique anemone
my very first anemone is on the book which is curlique anemone and I’m just disappointed because you spelled its name wrong and you also put their lightning need as immaterial when they actually need light... good thing i did another research about it.. anyway that book is good overall just that curlique anemone...

I love this little pocket guide of marine inverts
Excellent pocket guide to marine invertebretes for the reef enthusiast and excellent author in Ronald Shimek. I used this guide as a quick lookup for the inverts. No other book packs so much in so small a package. Extensive clear pictures and details. Great companion guide to the pocket guide for marine fishes. Highly recommend both. Please click YES if my review have been helpful to you, it will encourage me to continue writing and updating my reviews, and leave a comment if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer if I can be of help.

Excellent Quick Reference
This book is excellent for what it is - a quick reference guide. Do not expect to see the detail you would find in larger volumes focusing on specific genera or species of animals. However, to help identify see basic care and compatibility information and aid in setup and purchase decisions, this book is worth every penny. Many authors divide volumes confusing and annoying customers as they will classify anemones, corals, mushroom corals, and invertebrates differently. This covers the lot. Don't expect to see everything in endless detail. However, you won't be upset if buying this as a first reference for selection or as a complement to an existing and extensive collection.

It is great to know background to help make decisions that are ...
This book has proven invaluable as we are purchasing stuff for our tank. It is great to know background to help make decisions that are best for both your tank and for the animal that you are looking at.

Excellent Quick Guide
This is an excellent quick guide to help you making your invertebrates "wish list", and also very helpful to carry it when going shopping for new inverts. Each page provides a picture and useful information about the portrayed invertebrate, compatibility with fishes and other inverts, etc.It could be a little better if the author gave a score from 1 to 5 like the author from "A PocketExpert Guide to Marine Fishes" did. Also, a better clarification on light levels would be important. Just saying "bright", "medium", etc isn't enough for a beginner like myself.

Solid information
Great information and great list of invertebrates, including what to avoid. I would feel confident with this book in hand to go to a local fish store and know if what I see there is something I could take home and properly provide for and take care of.

Great little pocket book.
There are 3 books in the series the other two dealing with fish. This little book is ideal for slipping into your pocket for when you visit your local fish shop to buy any inverts. You won't find every invert covered but you will find most and the most commonly found in the shops.448 pages packed with useful identification and information on how to keep the various inverts contained within. IMO every beginner in reef aquarium keeping should have a copy of this book and should not leave home without it when going to buy inverts.

Great guide
Finally found a book that treats invertebrates as important. Too many people buy invertebrates that are totally unsuited to their tanks resulting in a high turnover. I would thoroughly recommend reading this book to prevent you making some major mistakes in stocking. Not every invertebrate you might see is covered but all the major ones are.
