GrisportUnisex Glencoe Hiking Boot

Some light misgivings overcome with use...
My main hobby is hiking, I do a lot if it, and I love Grisport boots.I hadnt tried the Glencoe boots before, but found a pair in 11s for sale on here for just £41 so thought I'd give them a try.Nice looking boots (nicer than the pics by the way), and have the better Spotex waterproof liner, which I can personally vouch for.I know from lots of experience with Scarpa and Brasher boots that it's as good as GoreTex.I havent yet tried a boot with Grisport's even better Sympatex lining, although it's hard to see how it can be too much better..Out of the box, fit felt snug.I have a reasonably wide foot, but can get away with either wide or standard fitting. These felt slightly tight by my little toes, although I had ordered a size 11 for my slightly larger than size 10 feet plus walking socks (as usual). It usually works very well.I did note that the EU sizing on the boots was marked 45, although seem to recall that most 11s I buy come out at a slightly larger 46..Anyway..1st 20 miles = a very sore little toe on the right boot. This was probably self inflicted, as a bit of podiatry snipping that evening cleared the toe from the sidewall in that boot enough for the them to improve as I broke them in..It was a close thing, but at 70 miles in now I am doing well with them. These arent as comfortable as the wider fitting Saracen boots in my experience (those are an absolute dream in comfort), but these are comparable in both comfort and outright quality to the likes of Brasher, Berghaus and Scarpa (all Goretex). So for £40 versus £140 for any of those brands, I am rather happy and went on quickly to buy the last pair available at that price :)A note about the non Vibam soles..These are in fact grippier than most Vibam soles on dry rock, but as soon as their is a wet smooth surface, you do need to take quite a bit of care (wet rocks, etc). This in fact goes for a lot of vibams offerings, and so for me the sole itself wasnt a big drawback as goes grip..Having said that, the sole of the boot is left very rough due to the lack of finishing on the upper part of the sole, and there is scant padding between it and your foot..In fact Grisport only put a very thin insole in (standard to all their boots but never a problem with Vibam soles), and after a few miles it began to painfully rub my soles putting me close to a blister on my left foot. This was completely cured on my next trip by putting a better quality insole in (in fact a pair of Grisports own stand alone soles). They didnt reduce the space at all, but have removed the rough feeling from the soles. If Grisport ever read this, please smooth down the underside of these soles before applying them to the boot.I'm happy, but wouldnt have really celebrated my purchases had they been the standard £100 price tag.For a comparable Vibam boot that is far more comfortable, I seriously recommend the Grisport Saracen boot.Update 19/11/20: no rubbing issues now with these boots, and I would rate them as good as the Saracens. Fitting a more decent pair of insoles than standard and considering the Saracens over these if having an ultra wide boot now being my only recommendations.I'm therefore just now upgrading then to 5 stars...

Great everyday walking boots
I am very impressed with these boots. They did not need any breaking in and have lasted well so far in over 6 months of use, particularly for the price compared to other brands I have used before. They have remained waterproof and comfortable. They also do not overly shout "I am wearing walking boots!" This means that I happily wear them as general day to day boots, not just for hikes on Dartmoor. Highly recommended.

Good Boots, shame about the laces.
I have been buying many types of Grisport boots/shoes for at least 20years and have found them just right for me. These Glencoe hiking boots I found with their 140mm flats laces just had to be change to laces of 150mm and round ones which I find suits the boots better. Before I was pleased with the boots now I am more than pleased.

Order a size up if you have wide feet
I took note of what one reviewer said about these boots being a snug fit.So I ordered the size 12 Glencoe boots [I'm a wide 11" fit]I currently use these boots for daily cross-country winter commuting on a MTB.Turns out these size 12 boots are a perfect fit...Very comfortable AND supportive even with 2 pairs of socks on.Waterproof too!!! [fully tested by me in wintry NW rural England!]The soles are excellent with a thick strong confident grip feel.Relatively simple and quick to brush clean too.Very highly recommended[...consider buying the next size up though...]

Excellent quality all rounder
I was confused what size to order given conflicting information about size conversation, unisex sizes, shoes being a bit smaller than stated size... I am EU 39. In the end took a risk and ordered size 6.5 which turned out to be EU 40. However the shoes felt quite comfortable despite the larger size. In the end of the first day I had forgotten I had them on, very comfortable. The leather gets dirty easily but relatively easy to clean up, waterproof tested. So far very satisfied after wearing them for a week in hot weather all day long.Update: tested in nature on a 6 hour night trip on rocky, grass and swampy terrain at altitude of 1900 m - 2290 m; Black Peak, Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria. Very comfortable, no leakages, saved my life a couple of times with good grip, feel and balance during rock cross-jumping.Update after 14 months of use: excellent light trekking boot. Waterproof. I used them in several winter trekking trips up to 2600 m (8530 ft), did the job but leaks after a day in heavy snow (wool shoes were wet). Its great for three season use though. A problem is the lack of protective rubber board so rocky mountains, stones already caused some damage, marks etc.

Great All Rounder
This is a Fantastic boot!!! I have had 3 pairs and going to buy a 4th. This boot has been around for years and works in all kinds of situations. you can wear it at work, in a mucky field, in the office, in the Pub. Very comfortable and great breathability. For the money you get a quality bit of kit, I would recommend this boot to anyone, they won't be disappointed!
