Any working scientist will not be surprised by the conclusion that the basic vs applied distinction is an historical accident and is now outmoded. Extracting that dichotomy from our institutions and funding models has proven challenging.

One of the best books I read on research. Definitely worth buying it.

I really liked this book, it captured the importance of research coming organically rather than prescriptively, and made strong arguments for how we can improve research.
