Yes you do need that very thin and wide tool (not included)
As others have said, you do need the very thin and wide tool to get the screen off. Not supplied with this kit. I saw that advice here but didn't follow it, and regretted it. I did crack the screen. However, I continued after cracking the screen and it was relatively easy after that: each of the different tiny screw head drivers are supplied and correct for the Pixel 2. The screen still works perfectly after cracking. So I got a new screen protector (a 9H glass one that is very sticky) to support the screen and now you can only tell the screen is cracked if you know what to look for and hold it at a particular angle too. Really you can't tell it is cracked. So I am very pleased with the end result and pleased that I continued after cracking. For only $15 I cannot really complain. The new battery has solved the life and crash problems.I used a heat gun on low setting for 2 minutes as I was hesitant in heating the phone too much. The online videos are very good but don't specify how long to heat. After each failed attempt to release the screen I used the heat gun again for another 30 seconds. If I did this again I would heat for longer (5 mins) and perhaps with the heat gun only about 2 inches away this time. I would be less hesitant in heating next time. I would heat the phone's edge to the extent that it is too hot to touch without gloves. As the video says, you must remove the SIM card tray first otherwise that'll deform. On the basis that my end result is awesome, I won't take any stars off. You do need that very thin and wide tool though as the other review said. I would purchase this kit again and get that tool separately.

Plastic parts broke before I even got the screen off
The tools that come with this battery are no good. The plastic adhesion breaking pieces sheared before I could cut the adhesion. I ended up breaking the screen, but that is no fault of the tools, except perhaps that there were no instructions included. I used youtube as a tutorial and failed to notice that I would be able to touch the screen on the side (under the glass). The included screwdrivers are unable to unscrew the screws under the screen. To be fair, the screws are not as factory perfect I would have expected, considering that my phone has not undergone surgery before.Ended up ordering an cheap-ish mid-range phone instead of fiddling with this further.

Great battery. Wrong toolset for Pixel.
Product was delivered on time. Works great. Accubattery is showing a capacity of 2657 mAh after 4 charging sessions. I deducted a star because this product ships with a tool set, which implies you could use them to change the battery, but there's no way you could change a pixel battery with that toolset.

As advertised
Works as advertised. The adhesive that is required to reassemble is not included in this item. The tools are pretty much a one time use deal and were significantly deformed after one use.

The Pixel 2 cells are not to design specification.
The original design specification of the Pixel 2 cell is 2700mah approximately 10.4wh. The cell I received was approximately 9.6wh which equates to around 2200mah some 400-500mah less than anticipated. This is many hours in standby which I can't help but feel I've been slightly short changed by this loss of power, plus it's a little bit long winded and risky to open up these devices as you have to go in through the display. It was certainly an improvement over the fatigued 2700mah cell that was in the handset originally but not what I thought I was getting.

One piece of advice before you buy...
I am probably not as agile as the people in stores that do this kind of things all day long, but I work in IT and I did screen and battery replacements more than once, so I have a fairly good hang of it. This device is the hardest I have ever perform a battery replacement on... Hands down. The problem is the screen which is glued real good. I was super careful not to crack it, but while I used a sharp tool to separate the screen from the phone, I accidentally inserted that tool between the digitizer and the LCD. I ended up cracking the screen. So here is my advice to you:Unless you are a super professional, if you buy this battery replacement kit, do yourself a favour and also buy a replacement screen. Chances are you will very likely break it. If you don't, just return it.For myself, if I would do this again, I wont even try to not break the screen. It is very difficult to pull it off.Good luck (you gonna need it).btw, I went from a battery lasting 2 minutes to one that last more than 24h \o/

Battery seems good, tools are rubbish
Swapped out my original Pixel battery for this one. First of all, any DIYers should also get a replacement screen if you're replacing the battery. I'm technically inclined and have decent dexterity, but this job ain't easy.If for some reason, like myself, you think you can do it and preserve your old screen, take great care when prying your screen off (after having heated up the phone to get the adhesive more pliable, as per all the video tutorials you should have watched). Work your way around with your prying tool, getting underneath the glass of the screen only, and do not get under the LCD part (i.e. the actual screen/display). This is only a couple of mm wide on the sides of the phone. The glass can take a bit of abuse, but if you use a prying tool and apply a little force on the LCD, you'll mess it up.The tools that come with the battery in this kit are useless for the 1st gen Pixel. The prying tools won't help getting the screen off, and the screwdrivers don't fit the screws. Get a flat metal prying tool to start getting the screen off (comes with other kits on Amazon), and use a plastic card or similar along the sides of the screen. Again, just shimmy under the glass part, don't get under the display. The plastic tools in the kit only help popping out the electrical connectors (like the ribbon cable from the screen). The battery itself seems good. Better than my four year old one that was on its last legs. After my odyssey, I was eager to leave a review regarding above, and I will update this review once I know how the battery itself holds up.Update: Battery is much better than my 4 year old original. I am a light to moderate phone user and it lasts at least the whole day, whereas my old battery would need to be charged about twice a day.

Tools Didn't Work at all
Tools are wrong for the Pixel 1. Ended up using an exacto knife to separate the screen. Screwdrivers don't work with the screws so had another set I used. Everything went well until I installed the piece under the screen incorrectly (There are NO instructions included with this item so was going off a youtube video from another vendor). All in all I believe the battery is good as my alarm went off for days even though I couldn't see anything on the screen after taking it apart for the second time. Had they supplied instructions (or a link) and the right tools I'm sure I would have scored them a 5.

Skip it.
The battery that arrived was already over a year old (2019-06, received in 2020-07). The tools included are cheap garbage and not even the right size for the application.I spent all that time carefully disassembling and reassembling the phone only to have it barely be any better than the 4 year old OEM one.Don't make the same mistake I did: buy something else.
