Neptune Transformer Compatible with Honeywell, Ademco, ELK, MG Electronics, GE Security, Bosch, Basler & Pittway (16.5VAC 40VA (White))

I had trouble with my alarm coming on and figured out the transformer had gone out. This was a great replacement and the price was just right.

Bought to replace a for a burn out transformer. Working very well.

My alarm system was showing a battery fault code so I looked at replacing just the battery but figured the transformer could be easily replaced at the same time. I needed a 16VAC 20VA transformer but finding one proved to be difficult, since the original transformer was a 25VA model I saw no harm in getting this 40VA unit since it was still 16VAC. Also swapped the battery to 7AH vice the 4AH that was originally installed. So that completes the backstory, now to the actual review, transformer installed easily, I opted for spade connectors vice the bare wire for the original NAPCO unit and did not need the ground lug so no connection there. Plugged in after wired up and worked like a champ, nice green led for operation. Obviously in my case the load is half or less of the rating so cool to the touch. Incidentally the battery was the real issue, 12 volt battery was showing 10.6 volts after full charge with external charger and a complete charge, I kept checking after I replaced it with the 7AH battery (EXP1270) and it gradually went to 6 volts with no charge and no load and has stayed there, so likely bad cells. Also I ordered a Honeywell transformer first as it matched the original specs better and it arrived in a bubble pack envelope loose with the prongs all bent up in different directions, so I returned it and ordered this one that came in its own box and another box and was cheaper, so that part is also a plus for the Neptune.

After receiving two of the Honeywell 40VA replacements, one which was DOA and the other arrived with shipping damage due to poor packaging, I decided to order one of these. I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase, The unit arrive ahead of schedule and works perfectly. The Honeywell units are more expensive, and have an internal fuse that will render the unit unless if the output is shorted. This unit has an internal self-resetting circuit breaker in case the output is shorted; the unit will still function when the short is removed. (I didn't test this, but will assume it works as stated).

I got this transformer to replace an old transformer that was looking overheated on my burglar alarm. This new transformer has a higher current rating than the original and does not get hot under use. It was very easy to install and works perfectly. I like that it has a small green LED built into the transformer so it is easy to verify that you have power at the outlet where you have the transformer plugged into.

My old transformer crapped out so I replaced it with this, but I also decided to get the Eufy 2k resolution doorbell to upgrade to. This transformer worked perfected for me. I checked the voltage at the doorbell before installing and got 18volts which was enough power to power the video doorbell. I also jumper'd the old doorbells at the two chimes I have in the house to make sure I had enough power for the Eufy. Solid product.
