This is an important part of American history that is too often not included in our education.

Live the book. As a native New Yorker, I found it very interesting.

Well researched and interesting. Evan Pritchard is an important contributor to Native American history.

Great book... arrived safely and on time....

For anyone interested in the details of the Native Americans living in the New York area, I would highly recommend this book.

I'm not informed enough to weigh in on the very polarized debate over this book in the reviews here, so I'll limit my comment to the graphics reproduction in the Kindle version. In particular there is a key map in the second chapter that will not enlarge enough to read the fine print. I had read this before in hardcover and the image is very clear, but here it is too soft. I'm very surprised this wasn't avoided.Otherwise I found the book very interesting, and now I want to know more on the subject, and how accurate this account truly is.

I live in the New York area, two blocks from the Mohicanituk (Hudson) River, and I have always been interested in learning about the original native people of this region. I hope that by disclosing the little known history of this region, it may help to raise people's awareness that even New York City is a sacred place, with a rich ancient history. I find this book to be full of amazing information, and don't believe that all of it can be inaccurate. On the issue of the linguistics of the native language(s), I can offer no opinion. Mr. Pritchard has tried to address some of these issues in the revised addition. But I can't help but feel that many of the reviewers who have called this book worthless are "throwing the baby out with the bathwater." I offer five stars in a hope to bring the rating up on this book.
