Surviving the Angel of Death: The True Story of a Mengele Twin in Auschwitz

Beautiful book, so well written.
Wonderful book, so real and raw. Very in depth and described the details of the horrific events these poor women went through as well as others. I truly felt like I was an outsider looking in on their lives and I could see all of the images in my head as they were playing out throughout the story.

Endorsed by my 13 year old
Bought as a present for a 13 year old who has been learning about the Holocaust and has a particular interest in the Nazi twin experiments. She loves the book. It is written in an age appropriate and accessible way, and from the perspective of the survivor, so it is helping continue to develop her empathy for others.

Gripping true story of an Auschwitz twin survivor
First I would like to thank the publisher and the authors for letting me access this copy here on netgalley. Secondly I would like to say that this was a terrible terrible time in history and should never be forgotten no matter what.I honestly don’t know what to say about this book. I really enjoyed it, and I finished it in about 3 hours last night. I had to sleep on what I would say in my review. Part of me even though I do know that it’s true can not believe what Germans did to Jews and thinking of it makes my stomach turn at times.I’m so glad that Eva took the time to tell her story. If you want a good Holocaust WW2 memoir with pictures then I really suggest you pick up this book. It was a fantastic and emotional read. I’m so glad that I got the chance to read it. I really loved how the version I read incorporated pictures and the fact that it went a little bit beyond what had happened to Eva and Miriam at Auschwitz as a Mengele twin.I do wish though that we could have found out more about the types of experiments he did. I’m quite curious why he thought there was some sort of secret in the genetics to being a twin. He was definitely a mad scientist/doctor type.

Updated
ThIs an updated edition of the original 2009 publication. I read it again and it was worth the second read. The epilogue is updated to reflect Eva's activities since the book first came out and unfortunately her demise in 2019. I found some of her words epecially relevant in today's turbulent world, especially about inherited guilt. She was an incredible strong person to forgive what was done to her. I'm glad she never negated that, despite criticism. No matter which edition is read, it's a poweful story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance read.

"Surviving The Angel Of Death" by Eva Mozes Kor And Lisa Rojany BuccieriI'm a HUGE reader on any and all things holocaust related. I found this not too long ago and finished it in just a few hours this evening. It's about a set of twins who at 11 years old lost their entire family (like so many others) and were the test subjects of Josef Mengele in Auschwitz. They miraculously both managed to live and see liberation and this is their story written by twin Eva. Should you read this, definitely read the pages toward the back because this woman did a LOT of amazing things in her adult life and I hope to one day see the CANDLE museum that she worked so hard to help create. I give this book a solid 5 🌟"I hope in some small way, to send the world a message of forgiveness; a message of peace, a message of hope, a message of healing. Let there be no more wars, no more experiments without informed consent, no more gas chambers, no more bombs, no more hatred, no more killing, no more Auschwitzes."#holocaustbooks#dontlethistoryrepeatitself#RIPtoalltheliveslost#alwaysremember#bethechangeyouwanttosee

Memorial stone for the lady in blue
Very touching book, short and easy to read. Good is the story of Eva as a child and survivor (written by Lisa Rojany Buccieri), the personal lecture (of Eva Mozes Kor himself) and the very good afterword of the editor Peggy Porter Tierney.I know Eva personally. It was very very touching for me to read her lecture I have heard very often. I could hear her voice by reading and all the personal memories came back. I like all the stories and memories Peggy describes about her very special humor. It is a very good book and a messenger for Eva’s message of forgiveness to make the world better.
