Yellow Mountain Imports American Mahjong Set, Classic Mini with Portable Wooden Case - Four Wooden Racks, Wind Indicator, and Dice

This set was purchased to bring with me when I travel. I have a full size MahJong set but it is too heavy and bulky to bring with me on a plane or a cruise. So I was looking for an American MahJong set that was small and light weight and would fit easily in my luggage. I travel light so this was especially important.I used the Yellow Mountain American MahJong Travel set a few times in solitaire play and, although the tiles are very, very small, it is perfect for travel. It comes in a nice wood case with felt on the bottom and has 4 racks that are usable. No pushers but that should not be a problem. My MahJong Card fits easily inside the case along with the tiles, racks and tiny, tiny dice. The only thing I do not like is that there is no latch to keep the wood case closed so I used 2 rubber bands to hold it closed.I am happy about this purchase and look forward to using it in my travels.

Great as a travel set BUT the case does not lock!!!! I have to tape or tie it closed to travel with it.

I love this tiny set. The quality is actually a bit better than I expected. The faces of the tiles are well engraved. They won’t rub off like a stamp would. It’s a full American set with 2 extra jokers & 4 extra blanks. The wooden racks are small but have plenty of room for 14 tiles. To keep them small, I guess, there’s no shelf for exposures and they fall a bit short for the 19 tile wall. There are no pushers, so a little care is needed to push out the walls. And, as everyone said, no fastener to secure the box. I doubt I’d travel with the box when it’s so easy to throw the tiles in a little baggie. I might even skip the racks, the tiles are thick enough to stand up on their own, but put on your readers! Even though they’re small, the tiles feel & sound like real tiles, not weird little blocks of plastic which is what I was afraid of. Also, I didn’t get the weird smell in the box others have noted. I know that smell! I think if the racks & the box were just half an inch longer, it would be perfect. I attached some photos, have a look.

I decided that I wanted to try and learn to play Mahjong, so I bought this set to help me learn. I have not had the set for very long, but it seems to be very good quality and comes with a wooden case with a magnet to help it stay closed (see photos). The set and the pieces are very small, which makes it perfect for travel! The outside of the case has a felt bottom and inside the case, the top and bottom are also lined with felt to protect the pieces. I have not had any issues keeping the case closed, but I have noticed that the magnet is not strong enough to hold the lid closed if you try flipping the case over (this is not an issue for me, since I store it flat on a table). I also noticed another reviewer mentioned that their set had a lingering smell, but mine does not seem to have that problem.I was also extremely excited to see that my set came with a "Learn to Play American Mahjong" book. The book explains the different suites and how to play classic American Mahjong with 4 people. The book fits perfectly in the case for easy storage (see photos).Overall, I think this is an excellent set and I loved that it came with the "Learn to Play" book!

I took 1 star off as it stinks to high heaven! What is it with stuff from China - everything shipped from there seems to absorb some ghastly odor. I washed the tiles in baking soda and the stink went away and have the case airing outside. It is a very cute set, the tiles are small but very easy to read ( although readers do help). It's very lightweight, the rosewood box is lovely and the price is very affordable. It was packaged very well, I kept the foam packing to store it in when at home. I can't wait to take it on a trip.

I have a full-size Yellow Mountain maj jongg set - the manufacturer worked closely with me to resolve a problem, so I have confidence in the company. That set has received many compliments, do I did not hesitate to buy the travel set. It is absolutely beautiful! Like others, I wish that it had a true latch (but I have purchased a small decorative latch to add to the case myself). The miniature tiles are small enough to be light and just big enough to use with comfort, and still have the satisfying click and hand feel of the large tiles. I looked at many travel sets: most of them had full-size but very thin tiles, or racks that were just a little bit too short, or were (ahem) just a little cheesy. I absolutely love this one and recommend it highly!

The mahjong is too small to play and preserve. Though the price is reasonable, the product is not very good for game experience. I already lost several mahjong characters...
