Hitachi2TB HDS723020BLA642 SATA3 U300 7200rpm 64MB Hard Drive

Mine was the 6TB. It arrived, and I connected to a Linux computer (Ubuntu 10.04 - old system), which immediately recognized it and I started to copy my files. It works great so far (have had it for 3 days).

received, HUA723020ALA641 (Ultrastar series) instead of HDS723020BLA642 (Deskstar series) as listed if that matters to folks. Would have preferred the Deskstar since I'm replacing drives in an array and would have like to keep them consistant, but ultrastar is working okay.

My workstations take a lot of read/write abuse and have gone through quite a few hard drives. I always replace with Hitachi drives and haven't had any issues.

I (have to, because they came with) use these drives in the Pegasus 6 Raid Array for Mac Thunderbolt. I have owned the device for three and a half years and have had four out of 6 drives fail in that interval. I finally shrank my data storage from 12 Tb to 8 Tb so I could have a spare drive available and much lower chance of losing data. Despite the fact that most of the failures were covered by warranty, I cannot recommend either Pegasus or Hitachi for large home office storage needs. Unfortunately the available selection of multidrive storage for Macs is extremely limited.
