Fowler 54-860-301-0, IP54 Digital Disc Micrometers with 0-1"/25mm Measuring Range

The company I work for purchased this micrometer for one of our secondary operations and i am very disappointed in the quality of this mic. We work with very small tolerances in some cases +/- .0001 which is why i ordered this mic, it has a reading of .00005, it does not repeat to +/-.0001 and i blame that on how tight the spindle is you cant get the feel you need, not very smooth, as the description says. Also note that it is a non rotating disc. I've been a toolmaker for over 30 years and always put Fowler in my top 4 picks for micrometers, now i would put Shars to a better quality micrometer and they run under $100. I feel this micrometer should be down in the $50-$60 range and then i would give it a better rating. I wouldn't recommend this mic to anybody.

This tool said it was accurate to .00016 and it wasn’t even close. it was actually.0005 or worse. The discs weren’t flat , there was .0004 taper on the discs from front to back. I bought the tool for specific jobs that require a tolerance of +- .0002 so this tool was useless to me so i’m sending it back. I have bought Fowler tools during my 35 year career as a machinist and haven’t had any problems but this tool stinks. i’m very disappointed
