Rise of the Tang Dynasty: The Reunification of China and the Military Response to the Steppe Nomads (AD 581-626) Kindle Edition

A very good book on the background to and early years of the glorious Tang dynasty. Perhaps somewhat confusing with all the names, but this is probably impossible to avoid. However, a few maps would have been helpful and the lack of maps is why I give four stars instead of five.

The Book is well documented and proivdes a good summary of the history of the Tang dnasty but is still very disappointing due to the lack of adequate maps THERE IS NOT ONE MAP IN THE ENTIRE BOOK .Trying to locate cities and follow various campaigns is impossible unlessyou have outside sources. Having to continually put the book down to consult Wikipedia is a pain Illustrations are also lacking as there are only 8 pages of pretty colour pictures which seem to have been taken from generic sources
