Really enjoyed this book. Good mix of humour, magic, danger and human moments. Can't wait to read the next one.

Hugely enjoyable.
I'm very glad to have discovered Brad Magnarella's creation Prof.Croft as he is an interesting slant on the urban fantasy hero. The story line is compelling and so far all of the characters surrounding Croft are likeable especially Tabitha.

Great characterisation, fast paced and funny.
Although the wizard Croft is the main character, is is part of a strange ensemble who seek to protect and serve. The diversity of these characters are intriguing; wizards, demons, talking cat, cops, vampires to name a few. They inhabit a world the author has crafted from a what-if Wall Street crashed scenario. Society is recognisable but some of it is turned around which makes it a fascinating read.

Dresden light
If you really like Harry Dresden, and you're jonesing for a fix after over three years between books, then this might temporarily scratch that itch. The number of aspects "borrowed" from the Dresden Files is huge; magic interacting poorly with technology, shouting faux latin to cast spells, a magical government causing the protagonist headaches, a suspicious female detective. However, the borrowed items all worked for Butcher, and they still work in this book. The quality of writing is approximately on par with Storm Front or Fool Moon, and I enjoyed the book as a distraction during my train journey to work, but I doubt that I'll remember it in six months.

Good conquers evil !
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The main character is really likeable. The little bit of comedy saves it from being too deep. Love the “cat”. Looking forward to reading the second book which is already on my kindle. 🤗

It's okay
Bought this book because of the reviews and it seemed like the sort of thing I enjoy. The storyline was good, and it is well written. However, I know the main character needs to come up against a multitude of problems to make a good story, but I like the character to have one or two small victories. In this book, the character no sooner has a small victory when he is slapped down again immediately - so no victory at all. From about halfway through, I found myself rolling my eyes and tsk-tsking in frustration, and starting to skip bits. Don't think I'll buy any more in this series.
