I was really disappointed with this book. My sons and I have read several in this series and enjoyed all of them. This was a disappointment to us. I know some readers thought this was a great way to learn about Daniel Boone, but all my sons, ages 10 and 8, kept asking was "Are we done yet?" The writing was plodding. A lot of the details didn't seem necessary and kept the story from moving along at a fast, or at least interesting pace. It was the first time I have ever had to beg my sons to finish a history book with me. In the end, all they remember is that Daniel Boone was a boring "character". It's a shame because he wasn't. I'm currently looking for another book on Daniel Boone that can turn their current impression of him around. I certainly didn't think this would happen.

I read the Heroes of History and the Christian Heroes books to my grandchildren. It is a wonderful way to spend time together. They enjoy all the stories of real people. Daniel Boone was no exception. However, be aware that are some violent areas simply due the era in which Boone lived. The violence is handled without being graphic, but it is something to be taken into account. Daniel Boone was a great figure in American history and a fine example for people today.

My son love this book. Very educational.

I have purchased so many of these "Heroes" titles and we have loved them all. We use them for family read alouds and then my daughter will re-read them again and again on her own. They are not boring at all. They include adventure, humor,and great character development.

Love this story and the way it was written. My 7 and 5 year old loved it!
