The Making of Bulleit Bourbon -Struggles and successes of this entrepreneur make you smile and cry!
This quick read will have you smiling one minute and tearing up the next! Tom lays out his life struggles and successes in creating Bulleit Bourbon. A dream he has had throughout his life. Like most entrepreneurs, he endures struggles, unanticipated changes, hours of pounding the pavement, road blocks, health issues, and through his persistence, hard work, and prayer, he achieves more than he dreamed of. His wit will have you laughing out loud, and his vulnerability which exposes his heart is touching. And the way he weaves his wife, Betsy, in and out of the story is wonderful. Great read! Bravo, Tom Bulleit!

Story of America’s New Favorite Bourbon!
This is an inspiring story of “little guy how had a dream” and worked like hell to achieve it, defeating cancer along the way. A great lesson in brand building one customer at a time.

Really a Memoir
I received a copy of this book through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review. This is a hard book to rate.I thought this would be a book about the history of bourbon and how the Bulleit family built the bourbon empire but really it's Tom Bulleit's memoir. The way the book is organized is confusing from the start. There's allusions to "Bulleit points" throughout the book but they don't actually appear in a list until the end. We start with the history of Bulleit's father and how he served in the military and was presumed dead and then we move on to Tom's life. He writes about his time in the Marines and Vietnam in present tense, which is a thing that happens throughout the book at seemingly random times. We flash forward to law school and then back again. We don't really get into the bourbon until almost a fourth of the way through the book. When we hear about the Bulleit business it is all business. How much money things cost, how much debt, how long it takes....the only real anecdote around the creation of the Bulleit bourbon is the bottle modeling. We spend most of the book hearing about Bulleit's personal life and how he became a father at nearly 50, his bout with cancer, how he was trying to raise money for his dream. He talks about the importance of getting bartenders on board and how he had to build his brand from the ground up, but he doesn't elaborate on how he did it or what he attributes his success to.If I'd gone into this knowing it was really a memoir I'd maybe have a different opinion. It's not linear time-wise and felt like I was being told instead of showed a lot of information making it not my cup of tea.

Not just for bourbon lovers
I am not a bourbon drinker but my partner is a real aficionado so I am well acquainted with the Bulleit brand. But this book has an appeal beyond bourbon fans. This is an interesting story of the history of Bulleit bourbon, from its founding to Tom Bulleit, who built the company into a leader in the industry. Tom Bulleit is a controversial figure but there is no denying his service to his country and determination to build his company and brand into one of the best in the industry. His hard work is admirable and the inside information on building and running a distillery is interesting, even if you don't drink Bulleit (or any other bourbon or hard liquor). You don't have to be a bourbon fan to enjoy this book but I recommend it if you are.

Fairly quick read, interesting, fascinating, honest story of working uphill to reach your goal!
I bought this due to an oral reference from a friend..and am glad I did! I don't know Mr. Bulleit personally, but it feels like I do now. It does not (at all) read like your typical historical biography. It's quick, fun, page-turner that's filled with ups and downs. Struggles through war and cancer, and victories in business and the workforce. Really highlights the "American Dream" and how one can achieve it. A terrific read for those that are entrepreneurs, Veterans, cancer battlers, and those that are interested in a unique story. He may have been a lawyer, but it reads like a fabulous novel. My props to Eisenstock for helping to narrate this incredible, true story. Many life lessons explained, and learned, along the way through different chapter's words-of-wisdom. One of the better biographies available on Amazon!

do you like bourbon?
AlanEisenstock.comis the co-author of more than a dozen books dealing with individuals whose stories have made a difference. All can be found on Amazon. While Alan prefers wine to bourbon, this assignment turned into a warm friendship. Elgin Baylor's story HANG TIME brought a near forgotten star out of obscurity. One of my favorites. For those who remembered the family tradition of Bulleit Bourbon, that Tom Bulleit was able to bring back his distillery into what is now one of the most sought after brands was worth writing about. At least the publisher's thought so. OK am prejudiced, Alan is my brother-in-law, and the adventures of all his books i lean on the periphery. What a great read for a time of plague and an in-absentia president. Unfortunately I was a single malt aficionado but no longer imbibe. Doubtless you will find this book a quick and engaging read. And look at Alan's back titles; there might be something else on there as well.
