Superb, flawless, broadly authentic recipes, breathtaking photography, extraordinary delivery!
I also previously purchased the three other English language cookbooks by Ms. Hahnemann, and am inordinately impressed by them all! There are few duplications. Not only are the recipes flawless and superb, the photography breathtaking and her culinary coverage broadly authentic, but Trine Hahnemann's style and the poignancy of her delivery simply is extraordinary! Her commentaries on food, family life and the historical bases for many of the infamous social customs in Scandinavia, are literally stunning. Especially interesting, to me, is that she has lived and worked also, both in America and England, in addition to her native Denmark, thereby increasing her keen awareness of our many cultural differences, by which to make astute comparisons, etc. I have learned so much more than invaluable cooking instruction from these books, that I shall always be unusually grateful that I purchased them!

Great Sourdough Recipes!
I LOVE this book. I checked it out from the library twice before finally buying it. I've made several of the bread recipes, my favorite being the everyday rye loaf. It is delicious and a great way to learn how to make sourdough breads. I love her perspective on healthy grains, the ritual of bread making, and the necessity (luxury!) of having delicious home-baked treats for your loved ones.This book is best for bakers who have experience, but would not be impossible for a beginning baker. And anyway, the photography is stunning and the descriptions of the recipes read like a Scandinavian autobiography, so really everyone can enjoy the beauty of this book!

This is book is a must for authentic Norwegian cooking
I have made about half the recipes in the book. They have been all delicious and came out perfectly. If you are looking for the food your grandmother made for you this is the perfect cookbook to have!

Beautiful pictures that inspire
Pictures are inspiring. Recipes are challenging but achievable. I had gotten this from the library and was so inspired that I purchased.

Great cookbook
Excellent cookbook with beautiful photos and very good instructions

Good, but...
Despite being authored for an American audience (as stated explicitly in the introduction), the book makes a number of assumptions that are frustrating for this American cook. First, the availability of fresh yeast. In urban areas, this may be an easy get, but I'm doing the math every time to make the substitution for active yeast. Second, bakeware sizes. The easiest example to call to mind is the size of rye bread tin the author recommends, 12"x4"x4" or 3L. This is not a bread pan size easily available from American sources (even here on Amazon), it would have been nice if the author scaled her recipes to match what's easily findable.I've mostly enjoyed the recipes, though some are a bit bland or just icky (looking at you, buttermilk pastries). The cardamom knots (knutar) have become quick favorites and are my go-to when I want something tasty to bring to leave on my friend's doorsteps.

Lovely book, but approach with caution
There's so much to love about this book, but users must check their measurements carefully! 800 ml of water is more than once translated as 8 1/2 cups -- the accurate measurement is a scant 2 cups. It's the difference between dough and soup! I love the prose, and the photos reflect what a competent home baker will achieve, nothing is doctored or prettified for the camera.It's well worth exploring the use of homemade sourdough starters to make interesting, tasty loaves. Turns out these doughs have a technique and a vocabulary of their own, not thoroughly explained here, and it's well worth the time to look up some videos on sourdough baking before starting.

Je n achète que peu de livres de cuisine car souvent il y a peu de recettes intéressantes, ce n est pas le cas ici, plein de recettes intéressantes et claires, on le lirait presque comme un roman tant il est agréable, en plus il est beau. Je recommande.Acheté une deuxième fois pour offrir.
