I've only assembled a couple simple frames, but this works really well.I almost wish that I would have gotten the lever version, but for as little as I'll use this, this will work fine. I've only used it a few times - 4 frames. I consider each one a success. All custom sizes. The key, of course is cutting clean and accurate 45 degree angles. The square will definitely hold them square. And there is a great satisfaction when you work your way around to the 4th corner and the edges line up almost perfectly. I had to remember to put the glue on corners 3 and 4, before nailing the 3rd corner. In soft wood, it takes 2-3 hits for me to seat the soft V-nails.I recall that the instructions highly recommended a plastic head hammer. I use a steel hammer. I haven't split the plastic holder/driver yet.The bad news is the gripper marks left by the black V-clamp. In the product picture, it leaves the marks hidden "inside" the frame. On my shadow box, I get marks that are left exposed. So, I have to work on my frame design. My kit came with about 100 soft 3/8" soft V-nails (F15), and a small bottle of wood glue.

Works as it should
I purchased this to fix a large contact print frame. It worked great and did just what it is supposed to do. The only issue I noticed was that the paint started coming off during use. Other than that, works great.

Solidly built, works 100%
I finally decided to get some sort of tool to help with my sporadic framing needs. I ordered this frame joiner, and it is amazing! It does exactly what it needs to do and the only complaint I have is that I should have ordered it before! Holy smokes this thing is amazing! Everything is made of sturdy metal, so it is of very high quality! Money well spent!

The Name of the Game is Managing Expectations
It will do what it says it will, mostly, but not a thing more. Immediately when I started using this product the yellow paint flaked off, which is not great when you're using glue. The magnet part would repeatedly get stuck inside the handle body and I would have to smack it around to get it to spring back out. I am fairly decent as a carpenter and thought I could make frames out of leftover molding stock. That was a poor assumption. Start by only using actual framing stock, and on the thicker side. Do a LOT of practicing. Assume a high failure rate when you start out, probably close to 50%. Use only flat, or nearly flat stock, it just can't hold anything highly tapered. The feet that hold your stock tend to cut into the wood when they do hold. Expect to fill and paint everything. Don't bother trying to make anything larger than 8x10, it can't be supported. And by the way, 5x7 frames block the handle for tightening the grip so have a set of pliers on hand, there's no room for fingers. Even so, this tool can be used successfully to make your own frames. Just start by managing your expectations.

Right tool for the job!
If you have ever tried to insert framing nail by hand you will love this kit, no more smashed fingers! I tried to cheap out and buy the nails individually, total fail! The jig holds securely and insertion is a snap. Protip: Choose size of nails carefully so you won't drive them through the face of the frame!

As a DIY'er I bought this to make frames sizes that I'm unable to buy at the local store. I didn't want to pay bunches of dollars for a custom framer to make the frames I needed so I'm doing it myself. This was worth the cost to me. Now I will use it to make other smaller frames for my crafting needs.
