Kai RS45 Rotary Cutter

I have several rotary cutters and was looking to upgrade mine to a Kai, with the pressure guard.I'm pleased with the pressure guard part, but that's about it. The switch from lightweight to heavyweight is easy, but it basically just pushes the blade away from the guard, and makes the blade bend slightly and therefore makes it hard to cut. I get so much shredded fabric stuck up inside the cutter it's hard to cut more than one piece at a time before I have to clean it. I wish I could return the stupid thing. I hate it.

This is my second cutter like this because I want a spare when I gather with my sisters to work on projects. When we meet there are a variety of other rotary cutters but this one is the one that works best. I love that there's no safety button to have to release but that the blade just comes out when you push on it to cut. It also fits nicely in my hand and does not slip when cutting. In my line of work I have tried several and by far this is the best for sharpness of blade and maneuvering around cuts.

I began quilting 25 years ago and have used one Kai cutter all that time. I only purchased another one because I dropped and broke my faithful one. I did look at other brands and almost bought an orange one, but came home from the store and instead, ordered another Kai. I am so glad I did. This one with the rubber bumpers feels great in the hand and gives some traction when pressing down. I love that a little pressure is all that is required to expose the blade. It makes for super fast access and an automatic safety retraction. The simple design, without a loop handle or extra protrusions, will make your cutting life easy. Ones with other fancy features may sound attractive, but don't be put off by the deceptively simple Kai. Here's to another 25 years!

Great rotary cutter; I own three from this company. I especially like that they are pressure sensitive, when you are finished cutting something the blade doesn't stick out; so there's no danger of cutting oneself like with the other rotary cutters.

I have the Kai Professional Scissors and love them, so I wanted to see if the rotary cutters were as great. The weight and feel was good, and I liked the ability to choose between a light or heavy cut. I set it for heavy cut, and started cutting through 4 layers of material. What a mess.....my very first use shredded the material, required multiple passes, and lodged material between the blade and the protective covering. I tried it several times before deciding to try in a new blade. With a new blade and the cutter on heavy cut, I tried again. It worked beautifully. I took a closer look at the blade that came with the cutter and saw that my used blades were in better condition than their new blade. Now that it works, I'm hoping the feature of light and heavy cuts will go a long way toward protecting my cutting matt. Time will tell. I gave this four stars because I had to replace their blade, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

My first cutter was given to me. I have been using it for over 10 years I think. It is easy to use, push down to cut and blade goes back after use, It's magic. I bought this one just to be sure I would still one that works for another 10 years but still using my first one.

Have had one of these cutters for about 10 years and decided I need another cutter for my travel bag. I think this is a much safer cutter because you don’t have to turn it “on or off”. My only negative is...the cutter came with a blade that was so dull I had to change it right away. Sorry, but for a $20 cutter, if you’re gonna include a blade at least send a sharp one. Otherwise, this is the only cutter I’ll have...and for homes with young children, it’s a much safer option.

I purchased this rotary cutter because, although I am extremely careful with cutting tools, I have a lot of young grandchildren, and would never forgive myself if one of them accidentally got hold of one of my rotary cutters and got hurt. This is the safest design I have ever used, and it is a comfort to know that little fingers are safe.I have been using mine to do a good deal of cutting, and the blade is sharp and makes excellent clean cuts, so I am not having to sacrifice performance for the safety aspect of my decision to purchase.
