Difficult to cinch tightly unless it's packed full, it's so big it's hard to fill with stuff especially since I wasn't willing to put anything in that I wasn't willing to get wet. The strap system doesn't work great especially if you only have cross bars (my cars roof rails don't have a place to pass straps through, they really only act as attachment points for cross rails or other roof systems). One 6hr trip from VA to NC, rained pretty heavily on the way there, everything was wet on the bottom. I figured I may have not zipped everything quite right so on the way back I tried to fill it better. Didn't really rain on the way back but when I pulled stuff out, a lot of it had black rubberized debris on it. I wasn't sure what it was until like another reviewer noted I realized I could see right through the bag, obviously it's not waterproof anymore. I bought this through Costco so I didn't pay $60 but it's not even worth what I paid for it. I'm sure there's better options out there

Permanent Car Damage & Not Waterproof
Total piece of crap. I was really excited about this when I bought it. I attached it to my roof rack and tightened it, drove around with it to test it out, everything seemed fine.Packed it up with sleeping bags, tent, clothes and pillows and headed off for a 10 hour drive to Yellowstone for camping. As soon as we got there I noticed a hole in the carrier, and when I unzipped it I saw a ton of tiny little black rubber pieces that had called off the inside of the carrier (the "waterproof" coating). Unfortunately it rained on the way, so our things were wet.We also had to endure a constant banging on the rooftop as the carrier straps continually came loose from the force of the wind while we drove 70mph on the highway. We constantly had to stop and tighten them up, which lasted about 25-50 miles at most before having to stop again, or endure the banging. While having wet clothes, pillows and sleeping bags is not ideal for camping, those things did eventually dry out. The worse part was that it caused permanent damage to my silver painted roof racks; not only scratching the paint off, but the plastic buckles of the carrier actually took chunks of metal off the racks, so even if I get them repainted they'll still look damaged. The several hundred dollars I saved by buying this instead of a hard top carrier ended up costing me twice as much in repairs.I also own a set of Samsonite luggage whose handles have come off. Needless to say I will never buy another Samsonite product again. Do not buy this.

Straps are poorly designed. Should secure straps
If the carrier isn't full and the straps are allowed to flap they will wear out the carrier top, which is what happenedto mine. I feel the straps across the top are a great feature for securing the bag, however they need to be sewedonto the bag. because of this flaw the contains got wet. Fortunately I thought ahead and double bagged thecontents.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
This product was compromised on the single cross country trip that I used it for. The material weathered away and it lost any water-resistant or "proof" quality. When I reached out to Samsonite regarding the product, they deflected any inquiries to the licensed manufacturer, stating that the product was not their responsibility and that any issues would have to go through the manufacturer.I was disappointed that Samsonite refused to be of assistance, despite the fact that their company logo is large printed on the product.DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Didn't even last a full day on the road. The straps broke and the waterproofing rubbed off and our gear got all wet.

Falsely waterproof!
Made it through light rain on day 4 of our trip but by day 6 and a major downpour the fabric was see through from the lining falling apart and everything was drenched. My mother spent the day hanging clothes out to dry instead of enjoying her vacation on the beach. Samsonite used to be a trusted brand. Will no longer use it.
