His so-called "style" gets in the way
I am sure this writer meant well but his awkward writing style---primarily his consistent efforts to be "cutesy" or "folksy"--grow more and more irritating as it gets in the way while one plows through this book looking for an interesting, fact-filled narrative. If ever a book needed a strict editor, this one does. I was very frustrated and eventually gave up.

Not grounded in fact
Unfortunately, the writer does not understand the science and facts around plastic materials. They are too set on demonizing plastics rather than looking at the evidence. For example, far from being a bane on society, we know that plastics are usually the proven greenest solution as shown by lifecycle analysis. Replacing plastics means generating far more waste, far more CO2, using more energy and chemicals. When it comes to plastic waste, only 13% of solid waste is plastics (EPA data) and plastics are proven to have significantly reduced overall waste production (peer reviewed). Replacing 1lb of plastic requires 3-4/lb of the replacement material on average. Does that sound wise? Following the advice in this book would harm the environment. If we are to make wise choices, then we need to start with the facts.
