Worked great
The pair of torsion rods worked great! I got my garage door springs safely wound/unwound and performed the necessary adjustments to balance the weight of the garage door. Although they are just a pair of metal rods, it is a specialty tool necessary for making torsion spring adjustments. It is worth the small investment. Do not improvise with another type of rod that may not fit properly or could fail under tension. The potential for injury is present as the wound springs store a lot of energy. Like any DIY task, there are do's and don'ts. If you lack the working knowledge, before starting, learn the steps and procedures to safely perform this garage door repair or hire someone to do the repair. Good luck and be safe.

Just What We Needed!
Just what we needed to fix our garage door. Only “complaint” would be... not needing these for anything else. Pretty much a one-time use and then they get tossed to the side and probably never used again. Not the product itself, the rods are very heavy duty and I recommend using them for a torsion spring replacement. All in all, great product & highly recommend using them for safety purposes. There was a lot of pressure on the torsion spring when we were cranking it and if you try to use anything other than these rods it can be very dangerous!

Replacement of torsion springs is not dangerous - just follow standard procedures and use the correct tools - winding bars
Purchased and used these bars from Amazon to replace a 25-year-old pair of springs where one spring broke. It's best to replace both springs as a matched set when that happens. Matched springs sets will last longer work better than unmatched sets.Replacement of these springs "is a piece of cake" and is NOT dangerous IF you follow correct procedures and use the correct tools - including these winding bars. If you are unfamiliar with overhead door technology and theory, and/or the replacement procedures, there are numerous excellent videos on line. Review the procedures while you are waiting for your winding bars and replacement springs to be delivered.Wear eye protection and don't work or place yourself in the arc of the winding cone when tensioning or releasing tension on springs.. Work deliberately and carefully - don't rush. You can complete this job in no more than one hour max. Painting a single paint stripe along the length of the new spring will help you keep track on the number of turns you've placed while tensioning the springs. If you live in a nanny state where they discourage selling you these springs - then buy them on-line. The big box home stores generally won't sell you these springs for fear of liability.Accurately measure both the unwound torsion spring length, inside diameter, and spring gauge/wire size before ordering. Several garage door websites provide the procedures. Most common inside diameters are 1 3/4", 2”, 2 5/8” and 3 3/4." To get wire size measure how many coils are in 20 inches then divide the amount of coils into 20. (Example: 20 ÷ 80 = .250).There is a right and left side spring, when ordering a set make sure you don’t order two rights or two lefts. The left-side spring has red paint markings, the right-side spring had black markings as viewed from the inside the garage, looking at the back of the closed door.Recommending oiling the torsion springs and also all rollers and hinges as a final touch when completing the project.

Longer would be better.
Whats not to like. It's two lengths of 1/2 inch round stock. The product quality is fine, the product design is not really not the best. They really should be longer. 24" length would provide more leverage and make them easier to use, especially as one is always using them while balancing on a ladder.

Worked great.
Worked well to adjust my garage doors safety. Very little to the rods themselves, though how to properly use them likely requires some additional learning and/or YouTube videos. Ultimately, saved me a fair amount of money by not having to call someone in for the adjustment.

The right tools for the job. Wear gripped gloves!
When it comes to using the right tools for the job then this is definitely the tools you need for winding garage door torsion springs. One thing worth mentioning though is these rods are slippery! It is an absolute must (for me) to wear gripped work gloves when winding the torsion springs because the last thing you want is for these rods to slip off your hands at high torque! As for cost, some folks would argue that it’s cheaper to buy a half inch thick by 36-inch long metal bar or even a rebar from your local hardware store and cut it in half. These winding rods cost me under $14. A rebar or a 36-in metal bar from my local hardware store cost between $8-$11. The bar itself might be cheaper but by the time you factor in fuel, drive time and effort cutting the “cheaper” material, it isn’t as cost effective as it may seem.

These did exactly what I needed
I own a storage facility that it 40 minutes from all the door repair places. They were charging me $250-$500 for a simple spring replacement! I soon figured out I could do it myself in about 45 minutes by purchasing this item. The bars have worked very well. I even made up a toolbox with everything needed for spring replacement so that I didn't waste time gathering tools when I had a replacement to do. These were the first thing in the box.

Simple Bars with Removable plastic caps
These are just simple metal bars with removable plastic end caps. They work as described and fit the winding end caps of torsion springs.

Good quality and essencial to be safe
It is almost mandatory to have those bars to change your garage doors springs in a safe way. Without them you take a lot of risk to get the spring "bouncing" back and hurt you. Good quality and served very well.

does the job
not rocket science here. Strong metal bars to help with setting the torsion on the garage torsion spring.
