Great for all bonsai levels
Very useful tool, at least as good as other similar sets that are much more expensive. Great for the beginner or expert.

Worth it
I have a large outside container garden that gets weeds from the lawn mower blowing seeds and such into the pots. I needed something to help me weed those pots and I found this set. It is quite nice. The small, metal rake is exactly what I wanted. The tines are sharp enough, and the handle is the right size and easy to grasp. I even turn the tool upside down and use the handle to dig/pry little roots up sometimes. It fits handily in my pots and in my hand. The other tool would be good if I were still doing bonsai, but I haven't used it yet. The handle is sturdy. The little bamboo rake is smile-producing and I'm thinking of gluing a pinback to it and using it as jewelry. It is ornamental and cute only - not functional. The metal tools appear to be carbon steel and so therefore need to be cleaned off after use and would benefit from being lightly wiped down with an oily rag too.Carbon steel rusts like mad; there are NOT stainless steel. The design makes them easy to clean. No big deal. I like quality tools and these count as quality tools.I think the quality is just fine and have no problem recommending them.

Tiny but acceptable
This is a nice set for detail cuts on your small plants. I suppose it can be used for other purposes but have only used mine for cuts on some of my Bonsai. They are delicate and do require getting used to using such a small set of essentially garden scissors for the potted Bonsai plants. They are like tiny clippers and good for small detail work. I probably misread the product when I bought it but was expecting three different sizes. Unfortunately all three are the same size. This is ok as I have placed them in various work locations and even one in my backpack for use on the road. They are a nice addition to your garden tools and recommended for the amateur horticulturist.

You can't go wrong at this price
I don't know what these were originally intended for, but I use them for trimming medicinal cannabis at harvest. These won't work on stems, but I don't think they were supposed to be used that way (title says "leaf" trimmers). These are ideal for trimming large amounts of small leaves very quickly. These are small - about 4 inches long. I've done a lot of trimming and I think it's more important to match the blade to the application than to match it to your hand size. It's kind of like tweezers or clothespins - we don't make those in different sizes to match people's hands. They are sized for the application for which they were designed. These are really nice for herb harvesting and manicuring. The pouch they came in was not of good quality and I didn't keep it, but it did a fine job of protecting them during shipping. After harvest, these trimmers cleaned up fine and I slide them inside an old paper towel tube and folded up the ends.I don't know how long they will stay sharp, but for this price I can consider them disposable and I won't hesitate to buy more when these get dull.Update 3/25/14:These trimmers have made it through another harvest. It's really nice to have this set of 3 - when one trimmer gets too sticky to use, you can just grab the next one and keep going. Afterwards, stand them in a shot glass of rubbing alcohol for a little soak, then wipe clean. They still seem as sharp as new after several harvests.

Nice set.
I have only used a couple of the tools so far but they do seem like they are strong. The rake worked quite nicely for removing the soil from the roots when i repotted my tree. My only complaint and the reason why i gave it a 3 star is because the pruners pinch my hand every time i try to use them. I think the blades and the handles should be a little longer. That's just my opinion. Overall nice set for the price. Just don't like being pinched.

Unlike most gardening tools, the only thing that makes root rakes and root hooks better or worse is sturdiness, roughness, and ergonomics. Other factors like length and the exact form of the tool head are situational. These don't have the best ergonomics, but they're sturdy and the ergonomics aren't terrible. The points aren't sharp and there are no burrs on the relevant parts of the tools.Unless you have arthritis, intend to use these a ton, or need a different size, I wouldn't recommend spending more than this.

Excellent tools, somewhat delicate
Good tools to begin your bonsai journey, the rake seems to be delicate and easily broken but serves its purpose. The other tools are quite robust and will satisfy any beginners needs in my opinion.
