ABUS1385 Combination Chain

I’ve purchased a variety of Abus security products and have taken solace in the fact that not only are they well designed and made but that I’m supporting a way of life that fits the moral, social, and philosophical values to which I subscribe. That is, they have all not only been designed but also manufactured in a civilized, socially responsible, and democratic country with laws against the maltreatment of its workers and surrounding environment. I avoid Chinese-made products for this reason - China has a long and sordid history of socially, morally, and ecologically irresponsible policies that have negatively impacted the Chinese laborer and enriched their despotic business and political leaders. So, I was deeply disappointed to see that this product was made in China and not Germany (where all of my other Abus products have been made) or other responsible country.That said, the design seems good and I have no reason to believe this chain lock won’t perform well, only that the people that made it and the environment in which it was made may have been subject to uncertain levels of unregulated and potentially poor treatment.

Could not imagine this is an item that could break. But the plastic part did. Is it possible to return this item ? It’s less than 90 days old

This product would have gotten 5 stars from me if it were one inch longer. It is virtually impossible to get 4 wraps around the seat post, and 3 wraps leaves it dangling dangerously close to my rear brake assembly. Abus, please add 2 links to your next version.

For its intended purpose, this lock works well. I wouldn't use a combo lock for high security purposes. To me this type of lock is for use when bike theft isn't all that likely and a light deterrent is needed. I use this lock when I am just going to the grocery store or coffee shop and I am leaving the bike for short periods only. I consider this my 'cafe' lock. It is a bit heavy but easy to transport in my trunk bag and quick to deploy and remove. When I leave my bike for longer periods, I will pair this lock with my Abus Mini Ulock or with my Litelok.

Have not had them very long, but love the fact you hook two together if needed. But individual they work good combo part is very sturdy, like the fact that you can set it to the White dots on combination and know one can figure your combination out. Very happy

This is my third of these 4-digit combo locks. I use them for my kids so they don't have to remember a key. Haven't had any issues and I live in Chicago. Granted, kids' bikes are a lower theft target, so I think the more limited protection offered by these locks fits the bill. The lock actions are smooth and I've never had any issues with them.

We love the Abus locks. We have one for each member of our family of 6. We like that they can easily lock together to lock multiple bikes. The numbers are nice and big and easy to read and easy to dial, but I do worry sometimes that the large visible numbers might make it too easy for other people to observe the combination. We had a cable lock cut in the past and a bike stolen. These came recommended by a local bike store.

It was cut. My bike was stolen. And they don’t offer any reimbursement.

Hab mir das Schloß vor einigen Tagen bestellt und mein Fahrrad wurde leider doch geklaut. Man kann gut erkennen wo die schwächste Stelle vom Schloß ist.

Habe das Schloss für das Radl meines Sohnes gekauft. Ich dachte ich tue ihm was gutes, indem ich ein äußerlich sehr stabiles Schloss kaufe, dass sich nicht ohne weiteres knacken lässt.Nach einem halben Jahr ist die Kunststoffverblendung an den Kettenenden abgefallen. Nicht weiter schlimm, denn es war ja nur aus optischen Gründen da. Nach nun 1,5 Jahren zerlegen sich die Räder zum einstellen der Zahlenkombination, denn die sind auch nur aus Kunststoff und überleben einen Sturz auf den harten Boden offensichtlich nicht.Das beste kommt jetzt: Das Radl war angeschlossen und wegen der defekten Coderinge konnte ich es nicht mehr öffnen. Ich habe mir heute einen handelsüblichen 600 mm Bolzenschneider geliehen (Kostet etwa 30 € so ein Teil). Das hat keinerlei Kraftanstrengungen gebraucht. Nach einer Sekunde war die Kette durch.Fazit: Ich habe ein teures Geschenkband gekauft, welches höchstens den Gelegenheitsdieb abhält, nicht jedoch einen Fahrraddieb der es gezielt auf das Radl absieht. Geschenkbänder gegen Gelegenheitsdiebe bekommt man auch sehr viel günstiger und die wiegen auch nicht so viel. Wer sein Radl wirklich schützen will muss was anderes kaufen. Dafür gibt es auch Tests bei youtube. Dieses Ding hier war ein Griff ins Klo.

Had to consult youtube to find how to set combination. Yep, there was nothing i nthe package at all about how to do it. Hint: You have to push the right hand red catch inside the lock up first, dial the desired combination, then push the left hand catch up to set it.Otherwise so far so good.

I bought this to replace a cable one that was damaged during an attempted theft. Didn't like that one because the cable was very stiff and difficult to thread through spokes and railings etc. The combination lock wheels were also stiff.In contrast, I really like this one because it is all the things the previous one wasn't, and it coils neatly round the stem of the saddle when not in use. Abus is a big name in the security field and this chain is up to their usual standad.As regards its capacity to make my bike theft-proof, I won't really know till the next attempted theft.The bike is only a mid-range one so I am confident that this chain is of a compatible standard.

Rugged lock, feels pretty heavy which I always see as a good thing. I have a 30" waist and when I am cycling it wraps nicely around my waist.
