Carver’s Olde Iron 20" Aluminum Mushroom Water Hose Guides for Garden, Plants and Flower Beds

My mom was a gardener and I became a gardener. I love these mushrooms. The first ones I bought (2 yrs ago) were cast iron and super heavy. I just bought 2 more March 2017 and they are now aluminum. Same look and same finish. I like the mushroom cap to keep the hose from pulling over the top and they are adorable. In fact I also purchased 2 for my mom, April 2017 and she loved them.They are a winner.It's one year later and I need to add that the first mushrooms I purchased were cast iron, the second order was cast aluminum and the tops popped off of them right away with basic use. The purpose of the shroom was to hold the hose in place. I loved them so much I went to my welder, I buy vintage outdoor furniture and he repair welds spots for me, and he secured the tops, but that added another $10 to each mushroom. It was worth it to me because I like the look so much.Nice to know the truth about what you are buying.

Overall, this product does a good job. Where we just installed them and yes, they do work as intended, sometimes the hose unscrews the post, causing the top to fall off and become ineffective. I would suggest that the post be a bit longer, thicker, and without the threaded part being where the hose will unscrew / unassembled the top half. I have rectified this by gluing the two parts together. As far as longevity, jury is still out. <UPDATE> I lowered my rating by 2 stars due to the darned hose breaking one of these. The hose is not super heavy, but did a number on the mushroom hose guide, RIP... Please make these better and able to act like hose guides, not something pretty and unfunctional.

You would think for the price you are getting a quality product. Probably the only quality piece about this is the mushroom head itself. The 2 pieces that make up the stem are very narrow. I would have thought to hold up against any decent hose the step should be twice the size in diameter. In addition, the step is made up by two pieces that you thread together. When you thread them together and then the top one to the mushroom head, the units continue to spin as if the inner thread mechanism is loose. In other words, the lower part to the upper stem and then the upper stem to the mushroom head, continue to spin when you are trying to tighten them. No, it was not because I put to much force on them to strip the thread, as I can easily unthread them just as easy. They are just cheaply made. The look is nice, the mushroom head itself seems to be of somewhat good quality, they just need to work on the stem and how the overall unit it put together. Not worth the $20 I paid. I probably might pay $3-5 at a retail store but I wouldn't pay more. I gave it a 1 star across the board, because of what I mentioned, and I just don't know if this will hold up over time.

I was hesitant to buy this since there were no reviews, I was also hesitant because it was more than I'd wanted to spend on a hose guide. Let me be the first to say that it's definitely worth the money! It arrived well-packaged, a day early, and is very cute. Nice and sturdy - no worries about it falling apart. The stem is long enough that it stays in place very firmly. Easy to put in, I just tapped it into the ground with a rubber mallet and we're good to go!

The mushroom was cute and seemed to serve it's purpose, but I was very disappointed when it broke after about a year and a half. I got 7 or 8 different hose guides about the same time I got this one, and this one is the only one that has broken. I may get another one to give it another chance since I did like the look and function of it, but if it does the same thing, I will be done with it. A metal hose guide should not have to be replaced in such a short amount of time.

I have a bad tendency to just pull on the hose without looking and usually just "blow over" the traditional hose guides - with this one - there's enough to put it well into the ground and still have plenty of space to move the hose around. I really like my two!

Used these in our garden and they work great. We live in Colorado where the weather can be harsh in the winter and they held up fine. Easy to put together--just two peices. Would recommend these. So cute !!

Love it! Looks great and is durable. My plastic ones only lasted one season.
