G. R. S. Mead and the Gnostic Quest (Western Esoteric Masters)

A good read and well worth my time.
I bought this book because I wanted to know more about knosis or the knostic beliefs, In short I was not disappointed. The introduction was some 32 pages; needless to say, one of the longest ones I have read. Yet it was important to give me, the reader, a background of the author and his unique beliefs and life. I am not a proponent of the Theosophic movement, but I certainly enjoyed studying their unique perspectives.Much of who we are and what we do can be traced back to the East. Many aspects of our life can be traced back to the early movements of empires, like Alexander the Greats quest to conquer the known world and India. This only resulted in the ideas of the East finding their way into Western Culture. The book helped me bridge the gaps with regard to ancient religious beliefs and relate them to my current thoughts. What was so great about Mead's work is he did not attack modern religion, rather he helped me better understand why my religion does what it does.I think I will now have to read some of his other written works.

Superb work on a much needed topic
While this book is far from being a full blown biography of Mead, it is the closest thing we have or at least so far as this reviewer is aware. Only the first 32 pages are biographical material but the editors (the Goodrick-Clarke's) have done an excellent job of presenting a concise yet interesting overview of the life and labors of G.R.S. Mead. The remainder of the book provides commentary from the editors and selected quotes from Meads own work on a variety of esoteric and philosophical topics, the most interesting and extensive of which is (quite properly, in this reviewer's estimation) on Gnosticism. Highly recommended!

A intriguing compendium of G.R.S. Meads work & and much needed biography
A useful book that is worth every penny. i am big fan of Meads workThis is the only book i know of with a Decent biography of Mead, fairly long and is basically the introduction of the book. It is also worth it for the rare articles of meads you cant find anywhere else. articles from quest magazine on gnosticism theosophy the vedas the Gita and Buddhism .

Good
This gives a good overview with selections from various of Mead's works. The succint biographical material at the start is also good.As to G.R.S. Mead himself his esoteric beliefs seriously tainted his ability to accurately represent history.
