Another Bite of Schnibbles: 24 Quilts from 5" or 10" Squares

I bought this as a gift for a friend. She loves it!

How nice to have a book offering a variety of sizes for quilts using 5" or 10" squares. The directions are very clear and the patterns are quite lovely. If you are in need of a small quilt in a hurry, you will find several options in this book. Sometimes I see a quilt and like it, but fear it might be too hard or time consuming.With this book I have the opportunity to make a small quilt, as a trial, and then venture to a larger one using the same pattern. Pretty great idea!

Always a quilter's delight!

Not a bad book, but not quite what I expected in a book on pre-cuts. The patterns usually require odd numbers of squares. One pattern in one schnibbles book required 46 five-inch squares, but most charm packs only have 42. How do you get four more? Buy another charm pack? Change the pattern? Both schnibbles books seem to start with the pattern and then figure out how many squares or strips are required. If you're cutting your own squares and strips from yardage, selecting colors, buying lots of fat quarters (more expensive than yardage) to get multiple pieces of a fabric line, and then cutting the strips, charms, 10" squares is quite a bit of work. The point of the strips, charm packs, layer cakes, etc. is to get multiple pieces of a fabric line and avoid having to calculate quantities, select, purchase and cut multiple fabric lines/colors. What this translates to for me is a pattern that is designed around the quantities/units provided in the commercial packs. That is not what the shnibbles quilts do.

I have not had a chance to make any of these quilts, but they look like they will turn out well. I am always looking for new and fresh ideas to use fabric with and there are times that I have lots of extra fabric that can be cut up into 5 or 10 inch squares and these patterns will help with how to work with them.

Carrie's book is highly entertaining to read as well as having some awesome patterns in it! My daughter has made two of them - a Bonnie & Camille fabrics version of Lincoln was my Christmas surprise last year! I made the cover quilt for my oldest daughter and plan to make it again for myself - it was such a fun quilt to make!!

This is the first book I've ordered from Carrie Nelson and I started browsing through it immediately. The collection of quilt patterns in this book is just begging to be sewed. The finished quilts are beautifully photographed and the patterns are well written and can easily be followed by new quilters. I've already started collecting fabrics for some of the small quilts and plan on starting them after Christmas.

I have a ton of Schnibbles patterns for charm packs that I paid about $8 each for. This book has those same patterns, along with a matching pattern that increases the size by using layer cakes in place of charms. If you have a lot of Schnibbles patterns already, and are not necessarily interested in the larger sizes, you will find nothing new in this book. Save your money.

I loved the fact that there were two sizes to each quilt and brilliant explanation of measuring, cutting and tips for seams. Well worth having this book, fantastically written . Well done Carrie

Such a great book of large and small quilts. It' has easy to follow instructions and really lovely designs. Enough to keep all quilters busy for a long time. Happy quilting.
