I hate nightlight that you cannot turn on or off manually. I hate nightlight that gave too little light to show surrounding area. For some strange reason, my local stores did not carry manual on-off night light. I bought this particular model together with LED light replacement (http://www.amazon.com/C-Crane-BNB-Bright-Nightlight/dp/B000RLFDJA/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_b). The stock bulb that was included was 4 watts. The LED replacement bulb was rated as 0.85 watts. Granted, 4 watts does not seem much but I figured that having LED bulb that will not burn out and with less wattage will pay for itself in the long run.After replacing the incandescent bulb with LED, I tried it out and by golly I finally found (for me) the perfect nightlight that is not too bright nor too dim.

Late at night, I have been stumbling around my kitchen trying to find my way in the dark. It finally occured to me that all I need do is get an old fashioned night-light.Funny how we never think of the obvious; get a night-light!I went with this model because I was determined to spend as little as possible for such a simple need. It works like a charm, too.The light it gives off is almost identical in brightness and color to a common candle. Picture a room lit by a carrot-sized candle and you will have exactly this product. The filament is such that it looks almost like a real flame. If it flickered too, you would swear it WAS a candle. One candle-power doesn't sound like much but even with my aging eyes,it's entirely sufficient to find my way around the room, and if anything it's four watt bulb is slight overkill.I coudn't find a replacement bulb type listed on the package but markings on the lamp base itself suggests a type C-7 bulb. The switch has a decisive feel to it.Not the usual "loose plastic" switch one might expect. This switch has a nice, crisp SNAP which feels durable.I have only one small criticism. Not a bone-breaker but a fault nonetheless; the prongs on the plug are polarized. That is, a Wide blade and a Narrow blade. On some electrical outlets (including my kitchen counter's), the night light will only insert upside down. It works fine inverted, so this is a small thing. Still, I wish they had gone with a simple unpolarized plug.

I have now ordered three of these. It's difficult to find an inexpensive, simple night light on Amazon. They all seem to blink or have light sensors or another unnecessary and annoying features. This is a very simple nightlight; switch it on or off, basic soft white light. It is on the higher end of the light scale as nightlights go and provides more light than most of the LED lights, for better or for worse depending on what you're looking for. I prefer more light, so it works well for me.

Highly recommended with the following Amazon item: GE 78953 0.5-Watt LED Candelabra Base 80-Lumen Night Light Bulb C7 Light Bulb, Clear, 2-Pack - GE ....Have purchased over 8 of these (keep the included bulbs for some other use) .. and given away several to friend who also love these with the LED bulb combination. The GE replacement LED is as bright as a 7 watt incandescent bulb and has the same color temperature. Excellent combination. Gives off the right amount of light. I went through several LED models before getting back to this "old reliable."

Incandescent is our preferred lighting style and this night light fits the bill perfectly. Strong switch clicks sharply to turn on and off.

Really works perfect for travel! I would have given it five stars if it was more decorative.

I did not want a "bright light." (AT ALL!) This night light has an amber bulb that gives off a lower to mild level of of light.I am very satisfied.
