For the money, it is worth it.
The biggest issue is the cores get stuck in the tube entrance. The more expensive soil samplers have a tapered end. This means the core sample is a little bit smaller then the inside diameter of the tube. My plan going forward is to find a dowel rod to pop the cores out. The end is sharp, so using your finger is not a good idea.Took about three weeks from the time I placed the order till delivery. It was shipped in a plastic bag. Bonus, it has rubber handles and an end cap!

Does not have the tapered end.
The soil probe I received does not have the tapered end. So, when you pull the probe out of the ground, it doesn't pull the full sample with it. If you are wanting to pull a soil sample 4-6" below the surface, you will need to push the probe a few extra inches to help get a 4-6" plug out of the ground. A tip for clay soil users, get a 7/8" wooden dowel to help push the plug out of the probe.

This tool works as I hoped it would. Takes great soil cores.
This tool takes great soil cores. Easy to use, comfortable on the hands when boring into hardpan soil.

Great price, not great in compact soil
Well built, solid construction. Unfortunately with compact clay soil it was virtually impossible to get a core out. Other reviews say this is a design flaw. I'm not sure as I haven't tried another one yet, but I just ended up digging my samples with a trowel.

Rugged and simple to use
I live in an area where the soil can become like concrete when it's dry. This tool had no trouble. The length is where it should be to give you leverage, the end is sharp and cuts through very well. This wasn't made cheaply.

Can't remove sample
I used it once and I can't get the sample out. I've tried a dowel, but it still won't come out. I'm afraid to try too many things since they could taint the sample.It is strong and I was able to get the sample out of the ground relatively easily, though.

Quality, if you're willing to wait.
The product is excellent and far cheaper than other sellers. However, it will take 3-4 weeks to receive since it ships directly from China.
