Visioneer Ultra-Slim OneTouch 7400 USB Photo Scanner (74007D-WU)

Already had one. Was buying this one for the software, which it did not have.

I purchases this scanner for work to replace a Visioneer 7300 that I had been using. There are two of us that often needed to scan in documentation and that Visioneer 7300 had served us well. However, when we were upgraded to Windows 7 machines, we found out the 7300 was not compatible and hence my search for a new machine.This scanner is a nice piece of hardware - it is powered off the USB bus, meaning no extra cords, and the buttons on it's face do exactly what you want them to do. It was very easy to setup, install, and use, and if you need to move it around, having just the single USB cord to take with you is nicer than dealing with a power cord and data cable.The included software is reasonably easy to use and the scanner's actual output is fantastic for my use (mostly high resolution scans of black and white documents).The negatives? The USB port on the scanner is in an awkward location - instead of it being at the rear, near the hinge, it is up front. This means that much of the cord length is wasted in laying along side the body of the scanner itself. I believe this was done because the "brains" of the scanner is near the buttons, so that's why the USB cable plugs in there. The only other part I found annoying was the registration process online for the software. It seemed cumbersome and not at all intuitive. If you can figure it out without having to clink around, well you're a better man than I!Overall a good scanner for the money and is serving me well!

I had a HP scanner that lasted less than a year and it went clang clang clang and quit scanning. That HP one was a BRAND NEW ONE. I'm sick of buying new scanners so frequently so I decided to take a chance on this beauty. Not only does it NOT REQUIRE A PLUG and runs off of USB entirely, it scans much better than my plug-in (and USB plug too) HP scanner. The installation was a snap and it works great. I have Windows 7 with a 64 bit system so yes I highly recommend it. The dealer sent this ULTRA FAST using UPS and I can't believe I already got it and it's running just fine at such a great price. KUDOS to this fine product and the dealer Dahmart!!

This is a great scanner for full-size paper documents. Not so great for photos if you want really good, clear, crisp photos. If you just want to slap a photo on the web or your digital picture frame, it's fine. It is very nicely made. The features I liked the most are that it is a USB connection, and that it will scan a full-sized sheet of paper even though it is small and thin. It's barely bigger than an 8.5X11 sheet of paper. The photo editing software (Photoimpression) that comes with it isn't that great either, but adequate once you get the hang of it. I can set the resolution for 300 dpi prior to scanning, and the photo still isn't that great. I also can't get the "one touch" function to work either. It did work the first time I tried it, but then wouldn't work anymore. No problem though, you can just control it from the menu on your computer monitor. It also doesn't seem to like to be disconnected and reconnected. Everytime I've done that, it won't work and just gives error messages until you reboot your computer. As simple as it seemed to be, I did encounter a problem when trying to load the driver (and I am a 30+ year IT person); it didn't seem to load entirely successfully, but works. If you want a scanner that is compact; that connects via USB; and that will scan full-sized documents and do a decent job on photos, you can't go wrong with this one for the price.

We tried and tried to get this to work so we could scan and edit documents but it would not work. Had to send it back. maybe you'll have better luck with it.

If you are looking for a cheap, decent-quality flatbed scanner that will do most straightforward tasks, this is what you want. It's slim, rests well on most surfaces, and has a hinge to allow for bulkier objects such as books. It has five buttons (customizable) and comes with slightly more than mediocre software.The resolution on this scanner is rather good. While it might not serve the needs of a graphics professional, for most other tasks the resolution and image quality of this scanner will more than suffice. On highest resolution, you get a lot of good quality detail -- and the scanning is pretty fast and quiet, too.The only real complaint I have about this device is that its driver has no support for edge detection and automatic cropping/resizing based on the size of the document. You must do that manually, and that can be frustrating sometimes. But it does support OCR, works with windows 7, is powered off of USB, and will take care of most tasks well.I recommend this scanner.

This seems to be the only scanner that will work with 64 bit Vista OS. We bought an HP, which is the computer brand, but it didn't work. All we had to do with this was download drivers for 64 bit and we were back in business.The software is easy to use, but that's the only type of scanner I've ever used. Highly recommend for 64 bit Windows Vista OS.

I love the basic premise of this scanner: small enough to bring with you and scan everywhere, no additional electric - works off the computer power. However I felt that it was a complicated installation - too many steps, when I expected plug & play technology. That being said, it works easily enough, and scans quickly enough, for my purposes on the road. It is not my "perfect dream" scanner - which would be a super-fast scanner for tons of old photos at storage/web quality.
