A Compact, Authentic-Looking Board
If you want a traditional Shogi board, look no further. The style of this set is simple, but covered in a Japanese air. Take note that the pieces have two different kinds of Japanese script engraved on them: one is on the top and the other is on the bottom. I am not knowledgeable enough to know what kinds, but I'd imagine that they are Hiragana and Katakana. The pieces are hand-carved, and it shows: the shape, though the same as a whole, varies in thicknesses at certain ends of different pieces. The lines on the board are flat, and the board itself is very smooth. There is a compartment that is cleverly hidden in the base to hold the pieces, and is held shut by magnets within the frame. Felt lines the bottom of the board to keep surfaces safe from being scratched, and the board itself is small enough to fit easily on a regular closet shelf. I recommend this set for any Shogi player or customer interested in a Japanese-style room; take my word as you see fit.

Good First Buy
When I first bought this board, I was hesitant; Not much information was given for this item. However once it arrived, after some thorough examination, I found that the board is actually quite decent! The pieces it comes with are nothing to brag about, but are finely branded into the pieces, and it is quite clear which piece is which. The drawer slides out nicely, and the pieces do not fall out, so that was a relief. The board is quite small compared to a traditional Shogi board so some piece sets may not fit on here to well. One of the legs is also shorter than the others, resulting in a wobble each time a piece is placed. This gets quite annoying when snapping pieces down, but it can easily be fixed so it's not to big of a problem. The top of the board is finished, and gives off a nice snapping noise when you place a piece down. Overall I would say it's a great buy for any new Shogi players out there, a bit expensive, but durable and trustworthy.

Shogi board handy
My son just started playing Shogi. This is an excellent receptacle for the pieces as well as a good game board. The drawers underneath work well. It is wood, so has a genuine feel. The price is reasonable. I it is very challenging to find this product. I looked in several places on the Internet, in stores and so forth. I bought the pieces separately, because I found handmade ones in both Japanese and English.

Very nice board, though I expected two drawers on each ...
Very nice board, though I expected two drawers on each side to hold pieces of both players and it turned out to be one straight across. The wood seems good and the pieces are nicely fit to the board and easy to figure out which is which. Made playing and teaching a friend that much easier.

To small
Okay I have a few issues... the board was delivered by FedEx to the wrong address so I walked around the neighborhood and found it at the neighbors. Seriously? I work night shift and this is what I wake up to. My house is yellow and green you can miss the house.Besides in company ant drivers, the shogi board is a lot smaller then I expected but I'll keep it. The game pieces are then flimsy wood and have rough edges. If I can I'll post pictures. I'll keep the board though. It'd be alot better if the board and pieces where bigger.

Good stuff
Good quality, bought it for my dad for father's day. I beat him 3 out of 4 times since I received it so that's worth 5 stars.
