Ugh
Sorry, I love Cabot but I hated this book. Horrible ending that was dragged out way too long. Most annoying heroine ever- she gives everybody in the world the benefit of the doubt except Lucien, who only wants her to love him. And she refuses over and over because he just MUST be evil (because everyone else is telling her so!). Never mind that all he does for two books is try to stop evil and protect her. Nope, must be evil! And then this whole book is about Meena trying to "prove" that he isn't evil (because she has to have outside proof- she can't just judge him based on his own behavior, oh no!) only to conveniently kill him off at the end so she can run off with Alaric, who was the douchiest of douches in book 1. Ugh. I wish I hadn't read either book.

Confusing
The first book was amazing and the setup had me wanting to read more. The second book was all emo drama and the ending made absolutely no sense. The whole long setup was wrapped up in one chapter where we learn things about the story that came out of nowhere. Additionally, things happen in the last chapter that made absolutely no sense to wrap up the story and were not explained. I spend several times rereading the ending to see if I missed anything, but I didnt. The lead character just states that she understood what had to happen to solve the problem. And we as the reader don't understand and it made no sense.

A Fun Bit of Escapism
"Everything was a disaster. Now, in one night, Meena had not only slain one ex-boyfriend who'd turned out to be a vampire, but she had another one in her bed. She couldn't imagine how things could possibly get worse, unless her brother walked into the apartment, found Lucien Antonescu there, and called Alaric Wulf, who would undoubtedly launch an all-out military assault on the place that would include smoke grenades and possibly tear gas." - from OverbiteSix months have passed since the cataclysmic confrontation between the Palatine Guard (the Vatican's secret army of demon-hunters) and Lucien Antonescu (eldest son of Dracula and ruler of all demon life on the mortal side of hell) in Manhattan's St. George's Cathedral. Meena Harper, who lost her job and her apartment shortly after she started dating Lucien, has decided to make a clean sweep of things. She's starting her life anew and she never thinks about the Prince of Darkness anymore. Okay, that's a lie. She thinks about him all the time but she does try not to miss him. Meena - thanks to her eerie psychic ability to tell when someone is going to die - has started a new job, with the Palatine Guard no less. It's an uphill battle, but she's trying to convince the members of the Guard that not every demon is irredeemable. She's firmly convince, for instance, that there is still a lot of good in Lucien Antonescu and that he still possesses his mortal soul. Predictably, Meena's sometime partner and sort-of friend Alaric Wulf is the most vociferous opponent of her theory.Meena's life has always been a little odd. It was no picnic growing up as the `you're gonna die girl,' especially in high school. But things are no longer odd, they are spinning out of control. Lucien Antonescu is back in the forefront of her life, showing up just in time to save her from a newly-made-vampire ex-boyfriend who was intent on getting a taste of Meena's special psychic blood. Meena wants to believe that Lucien is okay, but he is different somehow. To her he appears sick and weakened and Meena isn't sure what she can do to help him.Meanwhile, dozens of tourists have disappeared from the city and neither the NYPD nor the Guard can figure out why. Maybe Padre Calienté - Father Henrique Mauricio - can lend a helping hand. Assigned to the newly refurbished St. George's, Father Henrique earned a reputation for top tier demon hunting in his native Brazil. It's a shame that Meena doesn't trust the charismatic young priest but then again, neither does Alaric Wulf. His instincts, at least, are usually sound. Meena is going to have to work fast to uncover the sinister forces at work in New York because whoever is behind the escalating disappearances seems to be working his way up to her.Overbite is quite a bit shorter than its predecessor, Insatiable, but that volume has a lot of background and scene-setting whereas this sequel sticks to the action-driven plot. Once again, Ms. Cabot has managed to blend her trademark humor with romance, mystery and paranormal shenanigans to produce a well written novel that's also a whole lot of fun to read. From what I can gather, most of the less positive reviewers of this book were unhappy because they didn't like the way things turned out for Meena, but I liked the ending just fine. Together, Insatiable and Overbite are the perfect escapist reads for a lazy day.

Overbite by Meg Cabot
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Insatiable. It was a fantastic new take on the whole Dracula legend and I devoured every word. I was beyond thrilled to see that Meg was writing a follow up to it and downloaded it to my Kindle as soon as it released. Now that I am finished with the book and digesting all the information, my overall feeling is disappointment. I was not a fan of where Meg took the story and how the characters developed along the way.Let's start off talking about Meena. It has been six months since her break-up with Lucien and she has tried to move on with her life. She is working for the Palatine Guard now, hunting vampires and trying to keep the city safe. She has not been dating and when she runs into Lucien again all her old feelings for him come flooding to the surface. However, those feelings are never really given a chance to develop in the book. Actually no one's feelings are given a chance to develop because every time Meena starts to get close to Lucien or Alaric they are interrupted. With either some strange plot twist or Meena crying, the girl was constantly crying. As for Alaric, I know that Meena and he shared a few moments in Insatiable, but I never thought there was any real spark there. In Overbite however, Meena is always thinking about both men and not sure where her true feelings really lie. I did not like the back and forth inner struggle and found it very distracting while reading. If Meena was going to start dating Alaric it is a development that should have at least started before Lucien came back into the picture and not be a sudden development with the arrival of the prince of darkness. This brings me to my next point, Lucien. Talk about a Debbie downer, all his thoughts in the book were so dark and filled with self-hatred it was a chore reading his point of view as the plot progressed. He was so witty and charming in Insatiable and in Overbite he is just sullen and moody. Lucian has been fighting his dark side for centuries and now all of a sudden he is embracing it? This just did not sit right with me, I did not think he would go off the deep end but he most certainly did. It was so sad to see him this way and it put a damper on the whole book.I also did not like that one of the main conflicts in the book was resolved off stage. Meaning, the problem was solved, but we did not get to see it happen. We just heard about it through someone after the fact and that was not enough for me. I wanted to be in the heat of the battle with the characters and watch as they triumphed, not hear a watered down version of it after the fact. The last major problem I had with this book was the ending. I cannot believe that after everything these characters have been through this is the way Meg chose to end it. I cannot say what it is without major spoilers, but I know that I am so let down with this finale. I know there are no more books to come in this world and that is the only solace I now have from this series. If you liked Insatiable, I would still read Overbite so you have some resolution because you might end up enjoying it more than me. My only advice would be to see if you can check it out from the library or borrow from a friend before you commit to buying your own copy.

Decent sequel....read for yourself to decide
I saw lots of negative reviews of this book before I decided to get it. I’m glad I got it because though it wasn’t quite as good as the first book, I still very much enjoyed it.The only ‘negative’ for me was it seemed a bit rushed towards the end. I would have like to see a little more ‘backstory’ after the pinnacle of the story happened.

Get your teeth into Overbite
I was away for a few days and wanted a bit of light relief from some of the grimmer Fantasy offerings I’ve been recently sampling – and this new addition to my Kindle, courtesy of Himself suddenly seemed like a very good idea.Yes, yes, I know. Vampires. Again. But this offering has a welcome sprinkling of humour, and as you see from the cover, neither does it deal in indecent boring detail about their sexiness, either. Meena is struggling to cope with the aftermath of what went down in the first book – as well as continuing to cope when she’s confronted with how people might die. And she keeps annoying Alaric, who to be honest, initially comes across as something of a berk. Although when juxtaposed with Lucien’s smooth patter, he quickly grew on me. But it’s Meena who holds the plot together. Her strong belief that no one is doomed forever, as well as her frantic efforts to try and head off the deaths of people she encounters are by turns humorously dappy and hopelessly idealistic. While I often want to shake such heroines till their teeth rattle, I just wanted to put an arm around Meena and gently explain to her how the world really works. So why? I suspect it’s the way she’s written. Cabot is an experienced writer with a slew of successful books behind her and it shows. The characters are well depicted and enjoyable, the storyline was engrossing and provided some twists and turns. And for all the chirpy tone, there were still some death and destruction that had me fearful for the surviving cast in case Cabot offed someone I really cared about. I had the strong impression that she wouldn’t be afraid to kill off a major character…The story arc raced towards the inevitable climax – and came to a satisfying ending that had me reading waaay into the night to find out what happened. If you enjoy urban fantasy, then give Overbite a go, but my firm advice would be to read Insatiable first. This series is worth savouring.

overbite
I have read both books and found them extremely good, but I hope that there will be a third book, because this one is left in the air, not knowing whether Lucian is still alive, it is intimated because Meena found the picture of Joan of Arc in her bedroom, although I like Aleric, it seems to me that the first guy that the girl falls in love with gets dumped, he has done everything to prove that he is good, ok so he is a vampire, but if you fall deeply I love, that cannot just go away, most books always end with the girl falling for someone else, it would be great if this time Meena goes back to Lucien and helps him because his mother was part angel. Well that's what I think and am looking forward to the third book, by the way does anyone know when that will be. Great read and recommend.

not as good as the first
It's a good book however the ending was a surprise and leaves the reader unsure if there will be another book depending on which pair in the love triangle you prefer but that's just my preference.
