Great bird seed?
I am almost afraid to write this because I fear once I say it, the birds I don't want to eat it will be back. My two cats love to watch birds through the window so I asked google if there was any kind of bird seed that house sparrows won't eat and they mentioned Safflower seeds. The safflower is supposed to attract blue jays, doves, cardinals, titmice, chickadees, etc. But the house sparrows and squirrels are supposed to avoid it. So far, I've heard the pretty songs of cardinals and chickadees, song sparrows and some other bird that I couldn't quite tell what it was, but it caught mine and my cat's attention. <whispering> and so far I haven't seen any house sparrows, grackles or squirrels trying to eat it. There is actually bird food left outside at the end of the day. Before, it was devoured by the sparrows until every last piece was eaten. I was going through bags of bird seed like crazy until I finally said that's it, no more bird watching. But maybe we can watch again with this seed. I am hopeful. But I am still afraid to press "publish review." Here goes. I hope no house sparrows are reading this.Update: This is still really good birdseed but the past week I noticed the feeder being empty everyday and it hasn't been like that since I started using this seed. Then I noticed a bunch of, you guessed it, house sparrows are back and eating this seed too. I don't know why the sudden change but they are out there again eating everything in sight. Or at least trying to.

Sent right to my door
I'm 80 years old and it is hard for me to carry packages. I love that Cole is delivered to my door AND the birds love it with little waste.

Birds, Dogs, and Squirrels Love These Seeds
So, this was supposed to be a seed that squirrels typically didn't have a taste for. The squirrel that I was trying to avoid, now seems to like them so much that he brought his friends, and I have three squirrels around my feeders. Additionally, the dropped seeds are a nice snack for my dog, who sneaks over to the feeder when I have my back turned. I also have some seeds that have sprouted below my feeder, so I'm hoping to grow my own seeds when they flower... if my dog doesn't eat those too.The shipping could've been more efficient though. A huge 6' rectangular box was used for something that took up the lower 1.5' of the box. Not the sellers fault, but adding it here anyway.

Cardinals and finches are back; blackbirds finally gone.
Hooray! I was using a variety seed, but then our backyard was taken over by blackbirds. A few blackbirds were fine, but we had about 50 or 60 at a time, emptying the feeders in a day and attacking smaller birds. This was not the version of the nature channel I wanted to see. I let the feeders empty, and then replaced with this Safflower seed. At first the blackbirds stayed, eating the seed that had fallen in the yard, but they would not touch the safflower seed. We had about a week with very few birds. But now, the other birds have found this, and we have about a dozen at a time, including cardinals, finches and other small birds. We still have the occasional hopeful blackbird stop by, but they don't stay. I'm back for more.

Birds Love this stuff
My husband and I decided to buy a really good , squirrel proof bird feeder. This brand was highly rated on Amazon so we bought it. No birds came for 2 weeks, then the word got out on the bird tweet chain, and now we have tons of beautiful birds visiting us. AND NO SQUIRELS! Bit pricey but we love watching our feathered friends enjoy themselves.
