What happens now? You'll never know.
This story had promise and was well written, but ended up being a meandering personal saga with no definitive ending. To say I was frustrated with the abrupt last page is an understatement. Especially since this book wasn't laugh out loud funny as it promised - I was at least hoping for a HEA but was left hanging. I also didn't like the hero or the heroine. Other people told Lil that she was brave and wonderful etc etc but the only description we ever got from Lil herself was that she had a bobble nose and fly-away hair. Max on the other hand was some kind of bipolar mess. First he was ultra gruff, macho whatever, and by the end, he was a whipped whimpering mess. Really not sure what the point of this book was... wish I could have my time (and my money) back. It was like reading someone's diary with lovehearts and initials drawn in the margins.

Not so funny
Not so funny nor hilarious . Didn’t like “ holy “ profanities. Sometimes drag on with TMI about bathroom activities which I didn’t find endearing.

RomCom
Lil Bailey has been dumped by her boyfriend of 8 years for a twenty-something blonde. At 31, she delves into Internet dating and meets up with Max a good looking hunk. Having a decent time wow on their initial “date“ Max invites her back to his place. There they have sex. Having ghosted Lil, she isn’t quite sure if she should let him know that she’s pregnant with his baby. It turns out Max is the son of a viscount and a world famous mountain climber. The remainder of the book walks us through Lil’s decision to keep the baby and Max’s involvement. All the characters are well drawn and serve as a support team for a little and bolster her decisions. This was a light romantic read and there was the tease other happy ending.

I tried, I really did.
I really wanted to enjoy this book and for the first few chapters I did! Basically right up until she finished telling the story of how she got pregnant. After that I couldn't stand Lil. This book could be a blue print of how NOT to behave if you find yourself pregnant after a one night stand with a guy who ghosted you, and you decide to keep the baby!! She clearly is very self absorbed and immature, which might have been forgivable had she been 20, but she was in her thirties! She did the whole I can go it alone, I need nothing from you...while actually not meaning it, and then acting ridiculous when it didn't go the way her expectations hoped it would. She was telling Max one thing, but telling herself another and lacked any communication skills in order to actually handle it like a grown up. Max was no better, don't get me wrong, but her victim mentality drove me crazy. I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and understand that she's going through a lot, and hold off on me completely disliking her...but when she reacted how she did after they slept together and she saw an article about his ex...I just gave up on her. She had a right to be upset if he wasn't being honest, but he deserved a chance to explain. And I know this was supposed to be a miscommunication plot point, but it just sucked, and it was too selfish to feel bad for her. They weren't even dating. It didn't fit. It didn't work. Then the baby shower when she received that blanket from Max's mom and I was furious she couldn't even be bothered to include his mom or hadn't even thought about her. His mom was lovely to her and obviously this baby means a lot to her which was made clear when they met. Her wondering where the relationship between Max's mom and the baby would fit or how it would work drove me crazy! You make it work Lil! They're part of the package you decided on when you chose this! Lil is too victimy and selfish for me to like her as a heroine. And Max...we don't even know him! He is barely even written about in any real way. I was really annoyed throughout this book! Lol.

What Happens Now? Who Knows!
I really wanted to like this book more than I did. It's fairly well-written, and the plot actually grabs you quickly. But then it meanders on and on with nothing really happening. Max was completely undeveloped as a character. And why Lil had any interest in him after how he treated her both after their one night stand and after she tells him about the baby is never really explored. She harbors a secret crush on a man that, for all intents and purposes, has treated her pretty badly.I was willing to accept all of this, and about 50% of the way through the book felt like we would get to know Max a bit better (we even get to meet his family for crying gout loud) but it never happens. And in a rush at the end, we have an unexplained fainting episode, a run-off to Mongolia (seriously, what kind of partner chooses to leave so close to his child's birth), and in an ending that was a complete slap in the face - absolutely no resolution. To be clear, I was not looking for a HEA. That would have been a bit much too, especially given how little we knew of Max. BUT...another few chapters devoted to their relationship post birth would have been a good way to spend some pages in a book that overall, was far too long for the story it told.

Don't Believe the Sales Blurb!
The story line was not bad, but to say it's "hilarious" and the "best romantic comedy of the year" is really pushing it! There were some funny lines and comments, but don't expect a laugh a minute. Then I got the feeling it just stopped without giving us a satisfactory final resolution. This is a book that really, really needs an Epilogue!! It was a fairly long story, and I guess I felt a little disappointed after all the hype.

So-so Girlie Book
Got this for my wife, and I read it too. Lots of arcane references in the book to life in London (many not readily apparent to an American). The story line had some amusing comments and anecdotes.

Great read
Every once in a while you come across a novel that’s so interesting and so unique. This was one. I enjoyed it. Can’t wait for the sequel.

Don't believe hype
Can't believe Jilly Cooper (I always loved her proper racy books) praised the sex scenes! Which was basically one and they only did it once the first night! So who's kidding who with these reviews? Yes a few lines made me smile, but definitely not a 'laugh out loud, I need to re-read this page again without hysterics' as in a Marianne Keyes book. Too many cliches. Max drop dead handsome, great at sex, extremely wealthy, blah blah blah. But the plot is so unbelievable. Why would a grown woman who had a one night stand with someone she had just met via a dating site, who found herself pregnant, expect the guy to believe her straight away that it could only be his child, readily accept this shocking thunderbolt and instantly set them both up as a couple all within a few weeks of receiving this shocking news. But this is what Lil was expecting! Come on now. I can't believe so many people hyped on about this book. I read it in one day due to it being so wet and wild outside. Otherwise, in better weather I'd have deleted it from my kindle.

A brilliant must-read for 2019
Brilliantly written and a very relatable read! Totally fell in love with the lovely Lil and finished it in 2 days which I think says it all. Sophia Money-Coutts masters the balance between poignant family relationships and extremely entertaining scenarios. Loved it! More from this author please!

Rude, Crude and Hilarious!
What Happens Now is a book by Sophie Money-Coutts that I bought, after receiving The Wish List as an ARC to review and laughing along so hard, that I couldn’t resist buying this book after liking the look of the synopsis. It’s the story of Lil and Max. They meet through a dating app after both suffering a break up and spend a passionate night together, before Max disappears to climb a mountain. Lil then discovers she is pregnant and decides to keep the baby.Yes I know! Rom Com, Chick Lit books can be predictable and cheesy but they are the perfect antidote to COVID lockdown. What I love about Sophie Money-Coutts books are that as well as being all rom com romantic, they are hilarious. They are crude and sweary and fabulous and I love them!I read this book in a matter of a few hours and as well as making me laugh and giving me a warm fuzzy feeling inside it made me smile and that was just what I needed.Right......I’m off to find another Sophie Money-Coutts book now, as this one is sadly over and definitely recommended by me!

Hilarious and completely brilliant!
I read and absolutely loved Sophia's debut novel so there was little doubt in my mind that this would be just as brilliant. But it's even better. Such wonderfully written, funny and warm characters that you can't help but root for. Lil is a wonderful heroine. Sophia's observations are completely hilarious and laugh out loud funny. I couldn't put it down. I was very sad to finish the book and already eagerly anticipate book three!

Didn’t find it funny, like other reviewers, but absolutely loved it!
Didn’t find it funny, like other reviewers, but absolutely loved it!I don’t recall laughing during my read of this book, not once. I absolutely did not find it hilarious. But I did cry. I found the story very much like something that happened to a friend and so there wasn’t much humour in it for me at all.I loved the characters and I especially loved how Lil and Max’s relationship evolved.I can’t believe that anyone could find such a storyline and Jess’s story funny. It was well written and I definitely felt attached to the characters too.I am looking forward to reading my next Sophia
