This thing works great, installation was a breeze. I was a little skeptical about the power of the magnet, but the magnet is very powerful and the gate doesn’t budge at all. I have a vinyl fence so it’s not as heavy as the wood or metal gates.

Works great! Used it on my aluminum pool fence gates. 2 minor issuesA little hard to keep the stake straight when pounding it into the ground, but no big deal.The screw for the metal plate takes a square bit, which I was able to borrow. By drilling a small hole I was able to attach the plate to my fence using the screw provided.

I was hesitant to purchase because some of the reviews described how difficult it was to align to the gate and also how challenging it was to remove the metal plate from the bottom of the stake in the event you needed to attach it to a vinyl gate. They even complained about the magnet being undersized!I have a steel gate that provides access to my yard and pool. I received the Gate Boddy today and stuck it against my gate with the magnet. I was surprised at how POWERFUL the hold was. No way the wind will close this gate! It takes a good solid tug to release the gate from the stake's magnet. I took a soft mallet and simply pounded the stake into the ground while it was stuck to the gate. Alignment was perfect and install couldn't have been easier. I can relax now knowing that my gardeners and pool boy will quit moving rocks which put a window at risk and also, leaving the gate open so my dogs can make a run for it.A little costly for the item, but I am highly satisfied with the product!!!

I installed this in our gravel covered back yard on uneven groung. Easy install. Magnet holds the gate open just fine. Does not need a post or wall to mount.

This is a smart idea - a stake that keeps your gate open with a magnet. It is basically a plastic 2x2 stake with a magnet on it. I had 2 problems with this, however, namely: (1) the magnet that mounts on the gate itself came screwed to the stake with a square-head screw so I had to locate a relatively obscure bit just to get the magnet off; (2) the magnet on the stake is mounted flat against the stake, rather than with a spring-loaded ball like you would see on an interior door magnet, so you have to drive the stake into the ground perfectly level or the magnet will not catch the gate because the gate will hit the stake before it hits the magnet - I managed to do it but it was tedious and had to try several times, and there is very little room for error. I can see how even the slightest movement of the stake will prevent the gate magnet from engaging the stake magnet.

The spike comes with a removable metal piece that attaches to a wooden gate. The ground at my house was almost impossible to get the stake into, so I ended up digging a small hole and putting the spike into cement. It's really the best way to do it, if you have the time. Make sure you line up everything perfectly, before putting it into cement.
