Revell 69 Shelby GT500 Convertible Plastic Model Kit

Great model. A small warning—the paint colors indicated on the outside box didn’t match those on the assembly instructions. The assembly instructions were right.

An inexpensive kit that can b built as a convertible or with the top ‘up’. All parts fit well and directions are clear.

Delivered fast, price was great, nice kit.

This kit started out great, but really disappointed in final assembly. Front and rear valances, which I had airbrushed and clear-coated before they were installed, fit very poorly; I should say, "did not fit at all", as in, "simply not the right size/length". Revell expected to hide some of these errors with the rear bumper, and at that they were successful. The lower edge of the valances, however, can not be hidden and really distract from the look of the model. Additional problems included part 60 - oil cooler - that when installed according to instructions was completely in the way of the right side of the front grill, and it had to be removed. Part 16 - rear body panel insert - was too large for the opening and never did fit from the "inside" as the instructions indicated. The long shocks (part 86) were not mentioned under "custom" install of the raised rear suspension. The stock shocks (36) were installed instead, and they obviously did not fit the space allotted. Only by checking the parts list was I able to see that there were custom shocks for the rear suspension. By this time, I had already airbrushed the chassis. The interior tub has fixed panels molded in place that were not all that detailed - no door handles or cranks were apparent to my eyes. A poor effort for a "feature" of the kit that is highly visible due to the fact that this is a convertible!? Of course, Revell did include a "top-up" part, which you may want to employ to help hide the interior.

Nicely molded. Good model for just having fun and building.
