Craftsman Furniture Projects: Timeless Designs and Trusted Techniques from Woodworking's Top Experts (Fox Chapel Publishing) (Best of Woodworker's Journal)

As one who is very familiar with oak and its properties, this book is a good refresher in the Craftsman style. It's very strong on the mortise and tenon joint, although Festool dominoes will work as an alternative joinery method in many instances. The woodworker seeking to return to traditional mortise and tenon joinery and using plane and chisel as a means to effect that joinery will find these projects are perfect for that purpose. I would start with one of the smaller projects in the book, i.e., one of the end tables, and work your way up from there. Although power tools are shown by way of example in this book, they are not a requirement for completion of the majority of the projects shown.

There are not many books that have really nice interpretations of Greene & Greene, but this is one of the few. A few of the more general Craftsman designs earn a *meh* from me, but I bought this for the serving table, dining table, desk, and double frame designs. I will likely only build the serving table, but the dining table (reproduction, plus the plans) is a masterpiece. Makes me wish I was back on the West Coast...not much mahogany to be found in Indiana, tho there is plenty of QS white oak to be had locally.

This book has an interesting collection of 17 projects sure to be of interest to the woodworker. The photos and illustrations are first rate with a materials list for each project. I have many woodworking books that I never plan to use for an actual project, but this is an exception. I am so favorable about this book that I plan to purchase other volumes in "The Best of Woodworker's Journal Series." I trust the publisher to always produce a quality product.I live in a home built in 1915. It has rooms very similar to those pictured in this book. Now all I need to do is make some furniture to match those rooms.

One of the hardest things about building Mission Style Furniture is getting the finish right. If you are only making one piece there isn't much trouble but if you're trying to match the colors of existing pieces you are headed down a rough road. Not only is this book well laid out with great projects it covers a lot of basics, including the finishing of pieces. In fact it gives multiple techniques from fuming oak to using gels. This book is not only worth the cost for the projects (the Greene and Greene Serving Table is unique) but more than worth it for the background building techniques.

This is a great book of detailed plans for making arts and crafts furniture. The only one I've made so far is the Mission End Table, and there is an error in the dimensions... part #3, the back apron, should be 17", not 17-1/4". Fortunately, when you find this out you'll have cut the part too long instead of too short.

This is a great collection of arts and crafts projects. Some beautiful pieces that will challenge you, and some simpler ones that will look great in the home. Also has rips along the way for ideas in your shop, and techniques.I'm looking for other books by this publisher.

I'm not one to leave 5 stars but this book for the more advanced hacker like me is worth the money nicely put together crystal clear drawings (not sure the accuracy of the dimensions) but is a nice book for mission projects.
