UPDATE BELOW....I ordered this just to keep track of the loose change in my bowl. It is a fully plastic item and lightweight... but if it were any heavier you wouldn't be able to lift it when full of coins. The plastic bottle, while lightweight, appears to be pretty sturdy. Time will tell. The pics I have included show around $45.00 in change so I estimate the jar will hold around $200+ in change if I keep around the same mix of coins shown....It will obviously depend on what coins you are dropping in. There are two "pinches" on the side of jar, but they are pretty useless unless the jar is empty. When it has change in the jar, it's too heavy for the side pinches to be useful. The opening of the jar is about 2 1/2" . And adult cannot put a hand inside the jar, so you will have to pour the contents out. The jar is about 10 or so inches tall... eye balling it. The top (counter part) requires 2 AAA batteries (not included) AND a tiny screwdriver to open the battery compartment. Upon opening and inserting batteries, I put in a counted number of coins.. $1.67 for a test. The lid immediately failed after 3 coins and just stopped adding or reading denominations at all. I read the directions and inserted a pen into the "reset" hole on the underside of the lid (to the top right area of the battery compartment). It reset and I tried again. It worked. And continued working through the rest of the coin drops. The screen read stays on a few minutes (haven't timed it yet) and then blacks out. It re-awakens when you drop another coin in. With each coin dropped the screen flashed the denomination of the coin 3x and then shows the total. Normally I just throw my coins into a big bowl. When it gets full I load up into a ziplock and take it to my bank. Back in the day they wanted the coin rolled... now, no bank will take rolled coins. Thus the ziplock bag. The counter will take some of the guess work out of the total.. IF it continues to work... but I am ok with a "close" total. It's amazing how fast it adds up. I am disappointed it failed right out of the gate. PLUS. I HATE it when you have to use a tiny screwdriver to get into the battery compartment!! I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful.UPDATE 2/14/2017.... the seller contacted me immediately and offered a replacement top, stating that the top should not have failed even with a restart. Currently the original top is still working. I will keep the second as a back up. It is rare to come in contact with such a responsible seller. I added one star to the rating for this response and hope the jar will keep working. It's not a high quality electronic instrument - I understand that - but I do really appreciate the effort by the seller.

Holds less than $140
Works ok, some delay on updating the balance. Thought it was a bigger jar. With a mix of al coins, it holds about $140. It works.

Took Forever to Get
Came way late and the envelope and box were smashed to smithereens, but works fine and is as advertised.

Best accidental gift I’ve given to my husband
I ordered this to keep all our coins in one designated spot and I wanted a way to keep a running total. My husband is very practical and minimal, so I didn’t tell him I ordered this and just planned to fill it myself with my own coins. I put the jar next to my coin tin with plans to do it later and the box in our recycling. Being the observant guy he can be at random times that I can never predict, he saw the box and his eyes lit up. He asked where the jar was and immediately started setting it up. Little did I know such a small thing would delight him so much. You do have to push each coin through, which wasn’t ideal but he happily did it while watching something on the computer. He’s an accountant, so I assume the counter in the lid was accurate or else he would’ve said something.Overall, this does its job and gave me a good laugh when I saw how much my husband enjoyed it. Definitely would buy again.

Great for storing change that ends up loose around the house!
Updated this review again. The product works as expected. It is well constructed. It tally coins as you insert them in the slot. This coin jar works great if you have a handful of change that you occasionally need to keep track of. If you have a ton of change at home that you want to count up I suggest you look for a more automated solution as it will be tiresome inserting coins one at a time.Having said that it is perfect for what I do. Come home from being out any change I have gets dropped thru the slot. Works great. More importantly this vendor is very persistent in making sure I am satisfied. I originally posted this as two stars because it did not tally. I had begun the return process and He immediately contacted me offering to ship a new one free of charge which I did. That one also had a problem. He sent another and apologized profusely. That one stopped working again and he reached out to me the same day. We exchanged emails and he sent another bank to me. While it may have been a pain I have to say he was not willing to give up until I was satisfied and was very proactive about communicating to me.Did not recognize correct denominations and tally appropriately. I am forced to return it. The product seems decently made. The jar is thick plastic. Not sure if I just got a defective one.Updated this review to three stars. The Seller was quick to respond to my review of two stars. Apologized and offered a free replacement. Indicated they experienced a small manufacturing problem with a minor portion of inventory. I accepted and got the replacement. It counts everything except American Penny's. The Penny's count as dimes. There is a way to manually subtract but that is not why I bought this.Waiting now to hear back from the seller to see rather I'm doing something wrong but I don't think so. Any very impressed with their service they seem like a good company. Otherwise the product is made very well.
