Solid Product | Not Perfect | Satisfied
My Home Theater Setup is currently still running on a Pioneer VSX-820 1080p Receiver. I bought this product for my PS5, as I run all of my 4K video straight to my projector and audio through my Pioneer. The PlayStation 5 has one signal HDMI out. No optical. No additional HDMI for audio. It’s ridiculous. The PlayStation 2 had a seperate optical port for crying out loud.In advance, this all could be unique to my setup but perhaps it will help someone:Coming out of my PS5, having the extractor set to “5.1 output” did NOT allow for the PS5 to extract properly in 5.1. The channels were all over the place and inconsistent. However, setting the extractor to “TV” as opposed to “5.1” has allowed for the audio channels to be sent to the correct speakers. There is a slight sense of quality loss or an “extraction decay” as it kicks out the signal a bit hotter or crunchier than what you’re used to with optical connection. I’m not going to complain, just observing, because it’s still significantly cheaper than purchasing a new receiver, equal or better than the quality of mine, and allowing me to use a PS5 with 4K playback and 5.1 surround sound. At the end of the day, it works and can be a good solution for most people.

Works! Input: Roku 4k+. Output: optical to receiver, hmdi to 4k60fps projector
Finally something that works. We've spent so many hours trying to get surround plus 4k60fps and have tried several adapters. Right now we're finally getting 5.1 surround on Netflix and Dolby Atmos on Disney+ with 4k 60fps. ^_^ Onkyo HT-R397 (HT-S3900) receiver and Epson HC 3800 projector. Both Roku audio settings on auto. You can test your surround sound on Netflix with their "Test Patterns" video by Archimediatech but you need the 4k Netflix plan. Also when you're playing those test videos, press the settings button on your Roku remote to bring up options and make sure your "Night mode" or "Volume leveling" are off. You might need to reload the app (Netflix home > help > reload app) for the settings to take effect. On Disney+ you know you're getting surround sound if when you go to a movie's title screen you see "5.1" or "Dolby Atmos" listed as tag at the top by the movie title.

This device wasn't compatible w my new Sony Bravia 85K 4K TV for audio splitting
...so I called SONY Support. They finally explained I needed an eARC compatible converter connected to the eARC HDMI3 port only. Who knew?I bought this nice unit. Great build quality, but zero sound came out. I am feeding a powered soundbar. It's 5.1 and 2 channel, 100W big old heavy soundbar and loud. It requires an RCA input.I currently am using an optical to mini headphone jack converter, which barely works, and now there's no mute or volume control at all. However, I called J-Tech Support in TX. Jose helped me sort it all out. I need a different model J-Tech device, currently out of stock, but I ordered one anyway. It will produce a stereo audio output to its RCA jacks using the eARC HDMI 3 port on the SONY Bravia, thus rescuing my old sound bar from the landfill.B095DD4NW8 is the correct Amazon part number for the J-Tech converter needed for this purpose. Its description on the J-Tech website is: HDMI-ARC HDMI 2.0 Audio Extractor Converter SPDIF + 3.5mm Jack Output HDR10 [JTD18G-H5CH2].

Worked perfect for Dolby digital on Fire Stick 4K
I have an RV with an older Samsung 5.1 surround sound system/dvd and a Panasonic flat screen TV. The Samsung unit has only a TOSlink input for digital audio in. The Panasonic does not have ARC.I wanted to use a Fire Stick and have 5.1 sound. I tried using a cheaper hdmi extractor and all I was able to get is 2.1 sound using either fire stick lite or fire stick 4k. Fire stick diagnostics showed only digital audio formats available was PCM. Forcing to Dolby digital resulted in no sound. Also CEC did not work.I bought this 4K extractor based on the reviews and CEC support. After connecting, CEC worked fine with both Fire Stick lite and 4K. Fire stick diagnostics showed all digital audio formats were available.I found that with FS lite, leaving audio on best available or forcing to Dolby digital resulted in no sound. Only forcing to PCM resulted in 2.1 sound. I assume this is because highest format accepted by Samsung is Dolby Digital and FS lite did not down convert from DD+ used on most services. Now with Firestick 4K it worked great! I forced format to Dolby Digital and I finally got 5.1! I tested several streaming services including Disney and they all produced 5.1 sound. I assume FS 4k down converts digital audio to selected format.Very happy with this extractor. If you want to use it with a Fire Stick make sure it is FS 4K or better. Highly recommend.

Good, but...
I really want to like this. Great feature set, great price. However, there has been noticeable delay when using two outputs simultaneously, which is pretty much THE point of it.I'm giving this a 4 in a show of good faith because I'm hoping I am doing something wrong setting things up, which is entirely possible. But this is a benefit of the doubt rating; if I'm doing everything right it's a 2 tops.
