The Joe Pass Collection

Unlike other Joe Pass transcriptions, you have to get the original CDs - there is no CD or cassette available for this book. The transcriptions are in standard notation and TAB, and appear to be from these CDs: Virtuoso 2  Blues for Basie Virtuoso 3  Dissonance #1, Pasta Blues Roy Clark & Joe Pass Play Hank Williams  Blues for Hank Six String Santa  Happy Holiday Blues Summer Nights  I Got Rhythm, In a Sentimental Mood Portraits of Duke Ellington  Satin Doll Virtuoso (20 Bit Mastering)  The Song is You Chops  Yardbird Suite Blues for Fred  Cheek to Cheek, The Way You Look Tonight (thanks to Aldei Gregoire for corrections to this list)There is a version of Yardbird Suite on the "Resonance" CD, but this is completely different from the version here. The publisher does not credit the transcriptionists, which is unfortunate - they deserve recognition.

I really just wanted the sheet music to Pasta Blues but this contains an amazing collection of Joe's work. The sheet music is as accurate as anything I've seen. The TAB supplied is very good as well, although in a number of places I can find fingerings for the same passages that work much better for me. As always, if you can read music treat the TAB as a guide. I've been happily working through this book for over a month now.Note that some of the songs you can't get as audio clips online, so you'll need to buy some old CD's of Joe's.

I purchased this book for my husband, so I will let him review...Highly recommend if you want to undertake the challenge to learn what Joe Pass was playing. The 16th and 32nd note flourishes are all there, now there is the problem of playing them. Anyway, a great book for learning chord melody playing, in the style of Joe Pass. This will challenge any guitar player.

The notation and tab match, Outstanding Book! Playing Joe Pass is challenging, but the reward of the countless hours of practice, is worth every second!

I've just gone through a couple of the pieces, but so far I'm very satisfied. Good selection of Joe's solos and I like the fact they've put the chord symbols on top.

Absolutely fantastic ! This is a great book, with loads to go at. Lots of his solo jazz blues classic are in it such as blues for Basie, pasta blues and blues for hank. All of it is very difficult but deeply satisfying , and a true jazz workout !!

Peculiar paper for the Barney kessel books, but lots of good material to study. i was hoping of more chord solo rather than 'solo' for the Joe Pass, but there is still lots of useful stuff to get stuck into.

Very good transcription in tab and standard notations. No text, no explanation or discussion, only music. No CD but you can find the songs on tube. Require intermediate level, and finger picking. I enjoyed greatly. Highly recommended.
